Woodrow W. "Woody" Hayes
December 4, 1916 ~ September 17, 2013


Funeral services for Woodrow W. Hayes, 96, of Chickasha will be held at 10:30 Friday,September 20, 2013, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Holly officiating.

Woodrow W. Hayes was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma, on December 4, 1916, the son of Rosco Hayes and Stella Stidham Hayes. He died on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, in Chickasha.

Woody grew up and attended school all around Grady county. After school Woody started working in the oilfield.

On July 16, 1936 Woody married Minnie Lewis in Anadarko, the love of his life for sixty eight years.

After World War II began Woody enlisted in the United States Navy. During the years of their marriage, they lived in twenty nine different towns covering four states. After his service in the U.S. Navy, Woody returned to the oilfield where he worked until he retired in the late 1970's. After retiring they returned to Chickasha in 1983.

One of his greatest rewards was being able to take the Veterans Honor Flight to tour Washington D.C.

Woody enjoyed many things in life, but after retirement he started riding bicycles. At the age of seventy he got his first brand new bike. Riding for over twenty years he rode in several city wide rides around the area and several were over one hundred miles long.

Woody was a member of Parkview Christian Church for over twenty five years, where he was active in Sunday school and many other church events.

He was preceded in death by: both parents, wife; Minnie Hayes, brother; Noble Hayes and three sisters; Marie Thomas, Dorothy Culbertson and Geraldine Long.

Survivors include: daughter; Donis Wilkerson and husband Richard, of Duncan, son; Bennie Hayes and wife Beth of Lewisville, Texas, six grandchildren; Col. [Ret.] Kevin Wilkerson and wife Lt. Col. [Ret.] Laurel, Bryan Wilkerson and wife Judy, Leslie Strong, Lt. Andrew Hayes and wife Alba, Daniel Hayes and wife Hope, and Meredith Harris and husband Michael, ten great grandchildren, eleven great great grandchildren, dear friend; Thedra Remington and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family request memorial donations be made to Parkview Christian Church at P.O. Box 279; Chickasha, OK 73023.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Minnie D. Hayes, 84, of Chickasha, will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, September 29, 2006, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel.

Minnie D. [Lewis] Hayes was born on July 16, 1922, at the family home in Anadarko, to Tom and Lacy [Clift] Lewis. She died September 25, 2006 in Chickasha.

She received her education at High View School.

On Minnie's 6th birthday, she married Woodrow W. "Woody" Hayes in Anadarko. This union blessed them with two children: Donis Jane and Bennie Don.

During the years of their marriage, Woody and Minnie lived in 29 different towns covering four states.

In 1957 Woody and Minnie moved from Oklahoma to Cortez, Colorado returning to Chickasha in 1983

Minnie was a member of Parkview Christian Church, a homemaker, and an exceptional seamstress. She also enjoyed knitting, quilting, and gardening. Her yard was always filled with beautiful flowers, her garden with luscious strawberries and her tree laden with apricots.

She was preceded in death by both parents; one brother; and five sisters.

Survivors include her loving husband of 68 years, Woody, of the home; daughter and husband: Donis Jane and Richard Wilkerson, of Duncan; son and wife: Bennie Don and Beth Hayes, of Lewisville, Texas; six grandchildren: Col. (Ret.) Kevin Wilkerson and wife Lt. Col. Laurel, Bryan Wilkerson and wife Judy, Leslie Jane Tague and husband Robbie, Lt. JG Andrew Hayes and wife Alba, Daniel Hayes and wife Hope, and Meredith Hayes; ten great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Parkview Christian Church Building Fund at P.O. Box 279, Chickasha, OK, 73023 or to Life Line Hospice at 2210 S. 16th, Chickasha, OK., 73018.

Interment will be held in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Feguson Funeral Home.
