Bowens Hayes, 87, 1422 S. 2nd Street, Chickasha, will be at 2 pm Saturday, February 9, 1985, in the Shepherd Street Christian Church, 802 Shepherd Street, Chickasha, Rev. Ernest G. Nunley, pastor, will officiate, assisted by Rev. R. S. Corbin, pastor emeritus of FirstBaptist Church, First and Dakota, and Rev. John Alexander, interim preacher, First Baptist Church. Mrs. Hayes was born January 15, 1898, in Jacksonville, Texas. She died Monday, February 4, 1985, in Grady Memorial Hospital, Chickasha. She was married to James C. Bowens in Jacksonville, Texas. They were the parents of nine children, one born in Texas. Soon after the couple moved to Chickasha where the other eight children were born. Mrs. Hayes had maintained her home for approximately 79 years. Soon after arriving in Chickasha she joined the Shepherd Street Christian Church where she remained a faithful worker until poor health prevented her activities. She was preceded in death by both parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Mosley; her husbands, James C. Bowens, and Otto Will Hayes on Jan. 9, 1983; two brothers and three sisters; and four of her children, Jewel, Kathryn, Otis and Richard. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Mary Carter and Mrs. Irene Allen, Chickasha; three sons, John Robert Bowens, B. B. Bowens, both of Chickasha, James Bowens of Flint, Mich.; one sister, Mrs. Willie Mal Miller, Fresno, Calif.; one brother, James Mosley, Chickasha; 25 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha, under the direction of Christian Funeral Home, Brown, Brown & Fletcher. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Gladys M. Lawler, Henderson. Mrs. Eva L. Boyd will besoloist. |
