Harbison, 77, of Chickasha will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2006, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel, with Kim Dominick officiating. Monroe W. Harbison was born October 1, 1928, in Verden, Oklahoma, one of 14 children, born to Monroe W. Harbison Sr. and Jane [McKee] Harbison. He died April 16, 2006, in Oklahoma City, after a brief illness. Monroe grew up in Verden, Oklahoma. He attended Verden Public Schools and graduated from Verden High School in 1947. He was an avid sportsman throughout high school, lettering four years in baseball, track and basketball. On November 3, 1947, he entered the U.S. Air Force. He attended Air Force Weather School, and made many accomplishments throughout his military career. He served his country proudly and was honorably discharged on November 3, 1951. Monroe met and married the love of his life, his wife of 49 years, Kathryn [Cable] Harbison, on July 5, 1957, in Chickasha. They made their home in Chickasha. Monroe went to work for the United States Post Office in 1964, were he had been a letter carrier, desk clerk and the superintendent of mails in Chickasha. He also worked in the Oklahoma City office in the finance department for the post office. He retired from the Chickasha post office in 1990 after 26 years of service. Monroe loved sports, especially golf, and enjoyed watching sports on television, or in the stands. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and the Chickasha Elks Club. He was preceded in death by both parents and ten siblings. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Harbison; three siblings; two loving cousins; numerous nieces and nephews; and an astounding circle of friends. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Mary Bates, Benny Buckminster, Naomi Dean, Brian Gerdes and all other loving friends, for all their care, time, and friendship. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home. |

Harbison, 85, of Chickasha will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 11, 2007, in the Fairlawn Cemetery. Kathryn Harbison was born December 29, 1921, in Chickasha. She died August 8, 2007, in Chickasha. She grew up in Chickasha and attended Chickasha Public Schools, graduating from Chickasha High School. She later attended the Chickasha College for Women. She married the love of her life, Monroe Harbison Jr. on July 5, 1957. They owned and operated the movie theater in Verden , Oklahoma for a number of years. After selling their theater, they moved back to Chickasha and started their career in the grocery business. She was a loving and devoted wife for 49 wonderful years before Monroe preceded her in death on April 16, 2006. She later went to work as a bookkeeper for Southern Plains Medical Center where she worked until her retirement. After her retirement she enjoyed taking care of her husband and her home, tending to her flowers, and visiting with her friends. Kathryn was a caring and positive person. She had a big heart and a strong will. She offered her family and friends an abundance of love, care, joy and happiness. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. She was active in many of the church's activities until her health started declining. Kathryn's family would like to thank very special friends: Benny Buckminster, Naomi Dean, Mary Bates, and Brain Gertes for all the love, care, time and friendship that they devoted to Kathryn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe; both parents; and cousin, Mona Lambird. Survivors include cousins: Jerry Salyer and Christopher Salyer; and many special friends. Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home. |
