© Chickasha Express~Star Chickasha, Oklahoma May 15, 2005 Joseph Burton Gross November 24, 1916 ~ May 12, 2005 Funeral service for age 88 of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2005, in the McRay Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Don Horton will officiate. Joseph Burton Gross was born the son of Samuel M. Gross and Elsie Vineyard Gross on November 24, 1916, in Guntersville, Alabama. He died at his home in Chickasha on May 12, 2005. J. B. graduated from Chickasha High School in 1936, and then served in the Civilian Conversation Corp. During WW II, he entered the United States Army and served in the 95th division of General Patton's Third Army. J. B. was a Master Sergeant and saw front line action in Germany. J. B. served from 1941 - 1945. Prior to going overseas, J. B. married Alpha West on May 28, 1943, in Chickasha. After the war, he returned to Chickasha and worked for Bolton Dairy, as well as Par Mar Real Estate, for seventeen years. He was a member of the Epworth Methodist Church and belonged to the Wedding Ring Class. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Wade Vernon Gross and one sister, Neva Caroline Gross. Survivors include: a wife Alpha Gross of the home; two daughters and son-in-laws; two grandsons; two granddaughters; two great grandchildren; one sister: Gladys Greenwood of Lawton; numerous nieces and nephews, and other family and friends. Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under direction of McRay Funeral Home. |
© Chickasha Express~Star Chickasha, Oklahoma May 15, 2005 Alpha Bell [West] Gross October 7, 1919 ~ May 20, 2013 Funeral service for Alpha Bell Gross, age 93 of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 23, 2013, in the McRay Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Don Horton will officiate. Alpha Bell was born the daughter of Charles S. West and Rachel E. Morris West on October 7, 1919, in Kaw, Oklahoma. She died on May 20, 2013 at her home in Chickasha. Alpha married Joseph Burton Gross on May 28, 1943. She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church for over 68 years where she served as secretary of the Wedding Ring Class. Alpha worked at the Food Pantry and delivered Meals-On-Wheels. She had been a Girl Scout Leader. Alpha loved to sew and do for others. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Rachel West; husband, J. B. Gross, three brothers, Lee, Hersel, and Guy West, and one sister, Audrey Miller. Survivors include daughter and husband, Sharon and Bill Venable of Chickasha; daughter and husband, Karen and Duane Bennett of Chickasha; grandchildren, Jennifer Crawford, Brett Bennett, Christopher Bennett, and Shari Bennett; great grandchildren, Heather Crawford and Daniel Bennett; sister, Lena Ross; several nieces and nephews; faithful companion, Buddy. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home. |
