Raymond Smith "Smitty" Doyle
December 15, 1914 ~ April 7, 2001

Funeral service for Raymond Smith "Smitty" Doyle, age 86, of Chickasha, will be held at 2 :00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at the Epworth United Methodist Church. Esten Leonard will officiate. Rev. Larry Jacobson and Rev. Danny Vaughn will assist.

Smitty was born and raised in Duncan, Oklahoma. He married Jetta Milburn on July 18, 1936, in Comanche, OK, and they lived on a farm east of Duncan, where their two children were born.

While in Duncan, Smitty was employed at a local refinery for several years before going to work for International Harvester. Over the next decade, Smitty's position with the company would take the family to Ardmore, Pauls Valley, Purcell and Cherokee. In 1950, the Doyles decided it was time to try the American dream by opening their own business. Smitty learned automobile upholstery from his brother-in-law in Lawton before moving the family to Chickasha and starting his own business, Quality Upholstery.

Upon arrival in Chickasha, Smitty and Jetta joined the Epworth United Methodist Church where Smitty served on the board and taught the junior high boys Sunday school class. He was also a member of the Wedding Ring Class and Yet Set. Smitty was a member of IOOF Lodge and the Masonic Lodge. He was initiated into the Masonic Lodge on February 28, 1958. Smitty was a Master Mason and a past Grand Master. He was also an auxiliary volunteer for Grady Memorial Hospital for over 20 years.

Smitty enjoyed the outdoors and working with children. He was a sponsor of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of American, taking them on many camp outings. Smitty loved to fish and hunt, always including his family and friends when planning a trip.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ross and Clyde Doyle, and sister, Clara Wade.

Survivors included his wife, Jetta, of the home; son and wife, James Doyle and Mary Nell of Krum, TX; daughter and husband, Cora Lister and Don of Fort Worth, TX; grandsons, Christopher Doyle of Denton, TX, Craig Doyle and wife, Tiann of Kansas City, KS, Douglas Lister of Lighthouse Point, FL, Zackary Lister and wife, Christy of Longview, TX; granddaughter, Ginger Billman and husband, Clay, of Stillwater; great grandchildren, Dandie Doyle of Denton, TX, Abbey and Allie Billman of Stillwater, Harrison Doyle of Denton, TX; brother, Paul Doyle of Duncan.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grady Memorial Hospital Foundation in memory of Smitty Doyle.
