© The Chickasha Express-Star Chickasha, Oklahoma September 9, 2002 Mabel Elizabeth [Looper] Carman September 6, 1928 ~ September 7, 2002 Mabel Elizabeth Carman of Chickasha, died Saturday, September 7, in Oklahoma City. She was 74. Graveside services are planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2002, at Fairlawn Cemetery, under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. Virgel Butler will officiate. Born in Alton, Iowa, on September 6, 1928, Mrs. Carman was the daughter of the late Lee and Leona Looper. She attended Chickasha Public Schools, graduating from Chickasha High School in 1947, and attended Oklahoma College for Women, which later became USAO. In recent years, she completed more studies at the college, furthering her education. She was employed at Ross See Store for approximately thirty years, and more recently at Lightner's Discount Foods. She and Roy Carman were married in 1948 in Chickasha. She was a past member of Sweet Adeline's Chorus, and attended Calvary Baptist Church and Michigan Avenue Baptist Church were she taught children's Sunday school. During their children's years in high school band, she and her husband were very active as Chickasha High School Band Parents, serving a term together as president of that organization. She was also an avid OU fan. Mrs. Carman was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Lee Looper, Jr., and three sisters, Sharon McVey, Patricia Hartline and Gloria Clark. Survivors include her husband, Roy, two sons, Richard, of the home, and Roy Lee and wife Liz of Dallas, TX; a daughter, Jean, of Oklahoma City; a granddaughter, Trisha, of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Fran Morris and husband Jerry, of Chickasha, and Nadine Butler and husband Virgel, of McAlester, OK; a sister-in-law, Linda Looper, of Oklahoma City; two brothers-in-law, Garland Hartline and John McVey, both of Chickasha; and forty-six nieces and nephews. |
