© The Chickasha Express-Star Chickasha, Oklahoma Thursday, 16 July 2009 Opal Frances [Groomer] Calhoun December 22, 1921 ~ July 14, 2009 Graveside service for Opal Frances Calhoun, age 87 of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2009, in the Fairlawn Cemetery. Opal Frances was born the daughter of Willie Groomer and Marylu Vernie Biby Groomer on December 22, 1921, in Sulphur, Oklahoma. She died on July 14, 2009, in Oklahoma City. She married T. J. Williams on August 11, 1940, in Chickasha. He preceded her in death on June 16, 1945. Opal married Vernon Calhoun on June 28, 1946, in Chickasha. He preceded her in death on August 24, 1979. Opal came to Chickasha in 1922 and moved to the farm west of Chickasha. She graduated from Pioneer High School in 1940. In 1950, She moved to Oklahoma City and operated a trading post at Frontier City. She also owned and operated Calhoun Electric. Opal moved back to Chickasha in 1974 and operated the Indian Trading Post until 1979. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two daughters, Willye Francis Smith and Susan Dool. Survivors include: Son: J. P. Williams of Oklahoma City, Son: T. J. Williams of Newalla, Son: Gary Calhoun of Moore, Daughter: Jane Kennedy of Stringtown, Special Friend: Aubrey Baker of Blanchard, Eighteen Grandchildren, Fourteen Great Grandchildren, Three Great Great Grandchildren. Services will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home. There will be no viewing. |

Peggy Marie Calhoun was born May 1, 1927, in Chickasha, Okla., and died on Wednesday, December 11, 2002, in Oklahoma City. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home. |
