© The Chickasha Express-Star Chickasha, Oklahoma Monday, March 2, 1987 Melvin Albert Bowens 1911 ~ February 28, 1987 Funeral for Melvin Albert Bowens, 605 Second Street, Chickasha, will be at 1 pm Wednesday, March 4, 1987, in Shepherd Street Christian Church, 302 S. Shepherd Street. Officiating will be Rev. John Alexander. Rev. Morris Blakes and Rev. Kenneth W. Wright, pastor, will assist. Mr. Bowens was born 1911 in Jacksonville, Texas, to James and Elly Bowens. He died Saturday, February 28, 1987, in Grady Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. Mr. Bowens received his public school education in Jacksonville, Texas, and worked at various jobs. He moved to Chickasha where he met and married Miss Ruby Lee Mosley. He was employed by the Chickasha Hospital and later transferred to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was employed until his retirement. He was a member of the Shepherd Street Christian Church where he was a deacon and served as president of the Christian Men Fellowship. Mr. Bowens was preceded in death by his parents, James and Elly Bowens, and by two sons, Micheal Bowens and Curtis Bowens. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruby Bowens, of the home; five children, Pat Sims of Lawton, Liz, Charles and Junior, all of Chickasha, and Bobbie Miles of Jacksonville; five brothers and three sisters; one aunt, Hattie Devrow, of Chickasha; 12 grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and many relatives and friends. The body will lie in state in the Shepherd Street Christian Church from 11:30 am until 12:45 pm. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Christian Funeral Home of Chickasha. |
