© The Chickasha Star Chickasha, Oklahoma September 17, 1959 Andy Bowen July 10, 1894 ~ September 12, 1959 Funeral services for Andy Bowen, southeast of Ninnekah, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Brown Funeral Home chapel. Bowen died Saturday morning of a gunshot wound inflicted Friday night at his home. He was born July 10, 1894 in Tahlequah and moved to Grady county in 1907, settling in the Cofelt community where he was engaged in farming. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion. Survivors are his wife of the home; two sons, Floyd of Chickasha and Elmer of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Miss Mamie Bowen of the home and Mrs. LaVern Wallin of Duncan; six grandchildren; three brothers, John of Chickasha, Rt. 1, Dick of Chickasha and Albert of Alex; two half-brothers, Jim Berry of Comanche and Tom Berry of California; and one half-sister, Mrs. Mary Noble of Duncan. Interment was in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Brown Funeral Home. |
© The Chickasha Daily Express Chickasha, Oklahoma March 9, 1978 Lela May Bowen September 22, 1895 ~ March 9, 1978 Funeral service for Mrs. Lela May Bowen, 82, 1103 Dakota, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Brown Funeral Home chapel with Rev. K. E. Rains, pastor of Grace Baptist Church officiating. Mrs. Bowen was born on September 22, 1895 in Wheeler, Texas. She died early today in Shanoan Springs residence. Her husband, Andy preceded her in death on September 12, 1958. She was a member of the Baptist church. The family came to Grady county in 1919 from Wheeler, Texas settling in the Ninnekah area. Survivors include two sons, Elmer Bowen of Ninnekah, and Loyd Land of Chickasha; two daughters, Mrs. Laverne Garrison of Ninnekah and Mrs. Mamie Land, Hobbs, N. M.; one brother, Emmett Gibbons of Borger, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Jo Willoughby of Lawton, Mrs. Myrtia Fulton of Irvine, Calif., and Mrs. Vada Gibbons , Los Angeles, Calif.; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. |
© The Chickasha Daily Express Chickasha, Oklahoma Sunday, January 7, 1990 Elmer James Bowen June 11, 1924 ~ January 5, 1990 Funeral for Elmer James Bowen, 65, Chickasha, will be held at 2 pm Monday, January 8, 1990, in the Brown-Binyon Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. K. E. Rains of Grace Baptist Church will officiate. Mr. Bowen was born June 11, 1924, the son of Andy and Lela May [Gibbin] Bowen, at Ninnekah. He died Friday, January 5, 1990, at his home. Mr. Bowen lived in the Coffelt area between Alex and Ninnekah most of his life. He was a heavy equipment operator and had worked for the H. E. Bailey Turnpike. Later he worked for Grady County until his retirement in 1980 because of his health. At that time, the Bowens moved to Chickasha. Mr. Bowen attended Grace Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister, and one grandson. Survivors include his wife, Scharleene Bowen of the home; one son, Delmer Bowen of Broken Arrow; three daughters, Frances Eblen, Wynell Barber, both of Chickasha, Leanna Trimble of Dale City Va.; and eight grandchildren. Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under direction of Brown-Binyon Funeral Home. |
June 5, 2017 Johnnie L. Bowen November 23, 1924 ~ June 5, 2017 Johnnie L Bowen was born November 23, 1924, in Ninnekah, the son of John Henry and Susie Lavina [Thompson] Bowen He died June 5, 2017 at his home in Chickasha. He was born and raised in Ninnekah. He and Elizabeth Drewry were married January 22, 1944, in Chickasha. Johnnie was a farmer/rancher and over-the-road truck driver until he retired in 1992. He enjoyed his days birdwatching, puzzles, western movies, telling stories and spending time with his family. Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents; son, Danny Bowen; grandson, Christopher Crow; 7 brothers and 3 sisters. His survivors include wife, Elizabeth Bowen; daughter, Johna and husband Fred Richardson; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. Services will be Friday, June 9, 2017, 1PM at Sevier Funeral Home with interment at Fairlawn Cemetery. |
