Berry, 93, of Chickasha, will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Greg Brooks officiating. Luther A. Berry was born September 29, 1916, in Itly, Texas, the son of Adam Berry and Mary Frances Berry. He died Friday, December 25, 2009, in Chickasha. Luther grew up as a small child in Texas and came to Walters, Oklahoma at age ten. His first job as a teenager was driving a team of mules. He married Laura Moon on June 24, 1936. Luther farmed around the Walters area for a time and later moved to Arizona staying only about a year. He returned to the Walters area and continued farming and came to Chickasha in 1969. He had been in employed in the oil fields for over forty-five years retiring as a Driller in 1978. Luther enjoyed fishing, vegetable gardening and raising calves to be sold later at market. He had been an active member of the Laverty Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by both parents, his wife, Laura in 1992, four sisters, one grandson and one daughter-in-law.Survivors include one son, Allen Berry, of Oklahoma City; one daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Raymond Lovelace, of Chickasha, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home. |
