February 7, 1969 Marvin Henry Addy August 28, 1884 ~ February 7, 1969 Marvin was a farmer-stockman in the Alex area for much of his life. His grandson, Norton remembers spending many enjoyable hours up through his junior high years working with his grandfather on the farm. Marvin was a very patient man and a good teacher. He also served as the manager of the cotton gin in Alex for some time. And he only moved into town after his wife's death and the failure of his own health. |
May 25, 1960 Gertrude [Henderson] Addy February 16, 1878 ~ May 25, 1960 Gertrude was the third of the four children of Uriah Henderson, Jr., Illinois, and Josephine Ward, Indian Territory. Josephine and, therefore, Gertrude, were part Choctaw and Gertrude held one of the original Choctaw Roll Numbers. Gertrude was a member of the Lee Jackson Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in Chickasha. Her scrapbook contains articles from the Chickasha Daily Express about meetings of this organization [November 10, 1929 and January 23, 1932]. She also loved to garden, flowers in particular, and was an active member of the Garden Club in Chickasha. Gertie, as she was fondly called, loved to play the piano and was an accomplished artist, working in oils, primarily. Even though her tombstone indicates her date of death to be May 26, according to her death certificate, it is May 25. |
September 2016 Charles Leonard Addy September 22, 1929 ~ September 19, 2016 Memorial service for Charles Leonard Addy, age 86 of Alex, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 on Saturday, September 24, 2016 in the AlexFirst United Methodist Church. Charles Leonard Addy was born on September 22, 1929, in Wilson, OK to Lucious Olen and Blanche Lorine Clark Addy, where Mr. Addy was the proprietor of L.O. Addy Gent's Furnishings for number of years. Charles passed away on Monday, September 19, 2016 at his home in Alex, surrounded by family and friends. Charles spent his early years in Love County, starting school at Orr. His family moved to a ranch near Middleburg when he was in the 4th grade. He spent the next several years making many friends at Middleburg Public Schools. His Family moved again as he was entering 9th grade to a ranch they bought east of Alex. He graduated from Alex High School in 1947 along side many life long friends. After High School he enlisted in the United States Army and served a year and a half followed by 7 years in a Volunteer Air Reserve Training unit and an enrollment at the University of Oklahoma. After a short time at O.U. he briefly worked for his brother Bill before returning to farm and ranch with his father. In 1957 he went to work at the Post Office eventually becoming the Post Master and retiring after 28 ½ years of service. In 1958, at the urging of dear friends, he agreed to be "set up" with Mary Ellen Faulk, who turned out to be the love of his life. After a year long courtship, they were married in Zurich, Switzerland, and then settled in Alex, where they raised their two daughters. After he retired, he continued to serve the Alex community, that he loved so much, as Mayor and was instrumental in establishing the Alex Community Center. Charles had a true love of the land and enjoyed driving around looking at cattle across the area. He never met a stranger and loved talking to people from all walks of life. Charles was a member of the Alex United Methodist Church for 76 years, serving as secretary/treasurer for many years. He was a 32nd degree Mason, highly valuing his 58 year membership in the Masonic Lodge in Alex, Wilson, and Chickasha. He also was a member of the Alex Lions club, and was a Gideon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Addy; His parents, L.O. Addy, Sr. and Blanche Addy; two brothers, W. E. Addy and L.O. Addy, Jr. 1 niece, Laurel Davis; 1 nephew, David Addy; and 1 great nephew, Jason Davis. Survivors include daughters Francine Novosad and husband Gene of Enid and Rosemary Addy of Silver Spring , Maryland; grandson, Zach Novosad of Enid; great grandson, Tate Novosad of Enid; sister-in-laws, Inez Addy of Chickasha, and Mildred Estes of Wichita, Kansas; nieces and nephews, Susan Addy, Sharman Addy and Don Armstrong, Pam Faulk, Glenn and Alice Faulk, Glenyce Feeney and Don Bennett, Robert and Cindy Estes, Betty and Mike Crawford, Martha Burford and Katherine Brittain, Sam Davis, and Cathy and Howard Bernstein; 11 great nieces and nephews and their families; and many friends Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
