Martha Ruth [Williams] Vickrey
April 26, 1912 ~ September 2, 2008


Martha Ruth Williams Vickrey was born April 26, 1912, in Clayton, New Mexico. She died September 2, 2008, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

She married Brooks Edmund Vickrey on August 11, 1933, in Minco, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Brooks, of Minco; her parents, Claude C. Williams and Viola Pearl Williams of Minco; two sisters, Christena Hanna and husband, David, of El Reno, and Thelma Williams; one sister-in-law, Eloise Williams of San Jacinto, California; two brothers, Leroy Williams and his wife, Phyllis, of Lodi, California, and Claude Williams, Jr., of Mission Viejo, California.

Martha is survived by one son, Stanley Vickrey, and his wife, Earlene, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Gary and Cate Vickrey of New Smyrna, Florida, Terry and Bobbi Vickrey of Newport Beach, California, Renee Vickrey Doughty and husband, Dennis Doughty, of Pampa, Texas, and, Jill Vickrey Shackelford and her husband, Mike, of Lawton, Oklahoma; nine great grandchildren, Staff Sgt USAF Josh Vickrey and Bailey of Fort Sumter, South Carolina, CPL USMC Peyton Archer of 29 Palms, California, Julia Vickrey of Boone, North Carolina, Tyler Doughty of Portalis, New Mexico, Glenna Archer of Lawton, Oklahoma, Kamie Doughty of Pampa, Texas, Kelby Doughty of Pampa, Texas, Mathew Vickrey of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, and Tommy Don Shackelford of Lawton, Oklahoma; great great grandchildren, Landon and Mayson Vickrey of Sumter, South Carolina; four brothers, Harold and Eleanor Williams of Lawndale, California, Merrill and Jo Helen Williams of Cerritos, California, Clifford and Olivia Williams of Minco, Oklahoma, and, Bill Williams of Jan Jacinto. California; one sister, Pearl "Midge" Rhodes and Floyd of Minco, Oklahoma; two sisters in law, Louise Vickrey Hodges of Elk City, Oklahoma, and Elaine Williams of Mission Viego, California; numbers nephews, nieces, and friends.

Martha was a school teacher for over 40 years and started as a one room country teacher in three different country schools. She then began teaching 5th Grace at Minco when the last country school in Hazel Dell closed. She always loved all of her school kids.

She was a member of the Minco First Baptist Church and taught sunday school there for several years.

She loved arts and crafts and was a member of the local arts and crafts club after retiring.Her last few years were spent in the Bellevue Health and Rehab Center in Oklahoma City and we thank them for the care they gave her.

Services are scheduled Saturday, September 6, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Minco, Oklahoma. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, located in Minco.

Services are under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home of Minco, Oklahoma
