Robert K. Phelps was born January 6, 1914, and died on Tuesday, July 27, 2004, in Chickasha. © The Chickasha Express-Star Chickasha, Oklahoma 29 July 2004 January 6, 1914 ~ July 27, 2004 Funeral service for Robert K. Phelph, age 90, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 30, 2004, in the Minco Church of Christ. Jim Sheerer will officiate. Robert Keyes Phelps was born the son of Julian Knight Phelps and Nettie Keyes Phelps on January 6, 1914, in Cogar, Oklahoma. He died on July 27, 2004, at Christian Care Retirement Village in Chickasha. He married Geraldine Brannon on February 11, 1950, in Clovis, New Mexico. Robert grew up in the Cogar area and graduated from Minco High School in 1932. He played football and graduated with a bachelor of science degree at Central State College and a master's degree from Oklahoma State University. Robert served in the Navy during World War II. He taught industrial arts for 39 years in Geary, Anadarko, Carnegie, and Moore. Robert received Oklahoma's first Industrial Arts Teacher of the Year award. He was a member of the Moore Central Church of Christ. Robert was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Moore and the Red Red Rose. He enjoyed knitting and had made and given away over 450 afghans since his retirement in 1976. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine; his parents; six brothers, Lee, Donald, Clarence, Julian, Fred, and Pat; and four sisters, Dorothy, Mae, Julia, and Louise. Survivors include his daughter and husband, Phyllis and Cliff Cutrer of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; son and wife, Carl and Janice Phelps of Chickasha; one sister, Leona Fowler of Minco; granddaughters, Jennifer Phelps of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Cara Phelps of Chickasha; grandsons, Dustin and Adam Cutrer of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; numerous nieces and nephews. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Minco. Services will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home. |
