© The Tuttle Times Tuttle, Oklahoma September 29. 2005 December 13, 1925 ~ September 22, 2005 Harold S. Eisenhour was born December 13, 1925 in Minco, Oklahoma to Bernice [Synder] and George Eisenhour. Harold was born and raised in Minco. He attended school in Minco until the 7th grade. He then attended Fairview School because he was afraid of the Minco principal. His teacher at Fairview sent him out with the girls in his class to study. Needless to say there wasn't much studying going on. He was not ready for the 9th grade when he returned to Minco. He graduated from Minco High School. He was the oldest of six children. Harold loved his growing up years and taking care of his brothers and sister. He was always ready to cook and eager to help his mother out when she was ill. Every time his parents left he would cook. At seven years of age he wanted to bake a cake and there was no sugar in the house but that didn't stop him. He looked for a recipe that didn't call for sugar. It turned out to be pancakes. Harold's first job was working for the school superintendent of Minco School and he worked for the Minco Funeral Home as an apprentice embalmer for Mr. Quail and he did odd jobs at the cotton gin and Davis Auto Parts. While attending Mortuary School in Dallas Mr. Quail passed away. He had hoped to purchase the Minco Funeral Home. Since that didn't work out, after graduating from Mortuary School, he moved to Midwest City in 1953 and worked for a funeral home there. In February 1956 he purchased the Matheny Funeral Home in Blanchard which he still owned and operated. He opened Harold's Dairyland on Highway 62 and ran it for 10 years and he also had the ambulance service in Blanchard for many years. He also retired from the Blanchard Volunteer Fire Department. Harold was drafted in the Army on August 23, 1944. Harold served on the front line in Germany for 17 days and was wounded in the EAME Battle on February 27, 1945. Most of his squad were killed but he was rescued by other American troops. He served 4 months in the European Theater of Operations with Company G, 271 Infantry as a rifleman and finished his tour of duty as a military policeman. He was decorated with a Victory Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, EAME Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and a Purple Heart Medal. Harold was discharged June 29, 1946. He was an active supporter of the American Legion and VFW. He has helped in Legion Programs and building maintenance. In his younger years Harold was extremely community minded and helped in any way he could for his town Blanchard. He also served on the cemetery board for many years. Harold belongs to Midwest City Lodge #532, Indian Shrine Center of Oklahoma City, and 32nd degree Scottish Rite Consistory of Guthrie. Harold passed away September 22, 2005 at 79 years of age. He is survived by his brothers Howard of El Reno, Charles and wife Jean of El Reno, Bill and Jan of Midwest City, Lloyd and wife Glenda of Edmond; great grandson Colyn Tyler "Bear" McNair; granddaughter Jill and husband Tim of Blanchard, daughter Vickie that he loved dearly; son Ronnie and wife Linda of Blanchard; many other relatives. Harold was very much loved by his son, granddaughter, great grandson, brothers and his numerous friends. He was an honest, warm, friendly, compassionate person and someone who can never be replaced. He enjoyed joking, spending time with his family, friends, his mules, horses, his tractor, and working on his farm. He worked hard all his life and expected hard work from his son and employees. His employees couldn't ask for a more gentle, compassionate boss. His first priority was the families he worked with at the funeral home. The last few days of his life he reminded one of his employees again it was most important to make sure the families were taken care of and all their needs were to be met. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving parents George and Bernice Eisenhour, his sister Erma Jean Newman and her husband J.T. Newman; sister-in-law Betty Eisenhour and two nieces. Harold said the worst thing that ever happened to him was the death of his loving sister. Services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, September 26, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Blanchard. Reverend Jack Richey and Reverend Lendell Birdsong officiated. Interment was held in the Minco Cemetery. Arrangements made by Eisenhour Funeral Home, Blanchard. |
