May 1914 October 26, 1907 ~ March 13, 1914 Little Arthur Scott Is Killed by Wagon The entire town and community was saddened last Wednesday night by the sudden death of little Arthur Scott, son of Mr & Mrs John Scott. Arthur was returning home from school on the south school wagon, when being touched with the beauty of the wild flowers along the high way, left the wagon in order to pluck some for himself and little friends. He endeavored to regain the wagon by catching at the brake, which slipped causing the fall. He fell between the wheels, the hind one going over his body near the waist. Of the fourteen pupils on the wagon only one saw the wheel pass over the body. The driver carried him to his home and a doctor was summoned, but all could plainly see that the little life would soon depart. Arthur was six years of age; entered school Sept 8, 1913, and had been neither absent nor tardy uo to the fatal day. In the school room he was always bright and happy and was dearly loved by his teacher and many playmates. The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon by Rev Robert Baker, at the home south of town. The school marched in a body to the home to pay its tribute of regret. His teacher and little playmates placed upon his coffin a lovely wreath of white roses and a box of wild flowers, and sang the little song they had often sung together, "Jesus Loves Me." How sad it was to look upon the little form last blossoming its and we can only say to the loved ones whose hearts bled to give him up, that he is enjoying the roses of God's garden of Love, and that he waits to welcome you home. A little voice is hushed and still, A little form is cold and chill. A little bud has burst its bloom, And God has said up here "there's room." ~~~~~ We are very sorry to say but Mr John Scott's little boy got run over and killed by the Amber school wagon last week and was laid to rest Friday May 15th |
