Marcus Lafayette Meek
1859 ~ January 15, 1917

DEATH OF OLD CITIZEN

Marcus Lafayette Meek passed away at his home in Alex Monday evening at 8:30 o'clock after a brief illness from pneumonia, aged 57 years. His death was a shock to his family and the entire community. For several days he had been feeling badly from a cold, but was up town on Sunday morning and nothing serious was apprehended from his indisposition until Sunday evening when he became quite sick and a doctor was called, but the dreaded disease had fixed its deadly hold on him and death came last Monday evening.

Mr Meek was born in McNairy county, Tenn., but had lived in Mississippi and Texas at different times until coming to Oklahoma something over 20 years ago, where he lived until claimed by death.

In early manhood he was united in marriage to Miss Zilpha Ellender in Mississippi. To this union three boys and one girl were born, the latter having preceded her father to the grave.

Sometime after the death of his wife he was united in marriage to Miss Nannie Redding, at Milo, Okla.

About two years ago Mr. Meek moved his family to Grady county on a farm near Alex. He recently purchased one of the dray lines here and moved to town about ten days ago.

Mr Meek was early converted to the Presbyterian faith but of late years leaned more toward the Missionary Baptist belief, but was not identified with the organization at the time of his death.

The funeral services were held at the family home conducted by Rev. O. F. Halcy of Chickasha.

Burial was made in the cemetery at Bradley.

He is survived by is wife and three sons, James and Edward of Alex and Robert of Woodford, Okla.
