© The Chickasha Express-Star Chickasha, Oklahoma February 19, 2004 Samuel Sidney Hughes March 23, 1907 - February 7, 2004 Funeral services for Samuel Sidney Hughes, 96, of Alex, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2004, in the Chapel of Sevier Funeral Home. Samuel Sidney Hughes was born to Robert and Amelia Hughes in Pulman, Alabama, on March 23, 1907. He came by train to Ninnekah when he was 6 months old. At the time of his death, February 7, 2004, he was residing with John Valynda and family east of Alex. He graduated from Ninnekah High School and had lived and farmed in and around Grady and Garvin Counties all of his life. He and Anna Neal were married April 12, 1930. To this union was born children. He was preceded in death by: His wife, Anna Hughes; 1 daughter, Ruth Hughes;1 son, R. L. Hughes; and 1 great grandson, Bradley Green. Also preceding him in death were his parents, 2 sisters, and 6 brothers. Survivors include: 2 sons, Sidney Hughes, Jr. of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and John Hughes of Alex, Oklahoma; 3 daughters, Annita Green of Ada, Oklahoma, Lyvon Morgan of Rush Springs, Oklahoma, and Lois Foster of Alex, Oklahoma; brother, Roy Hughes of Konawa, Oklahoma; 2 sisters, Sara Smith of Norman, Oklahoma and Hazel Saxon of Roseburg, Oregon; 20 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren. Interment will be in Bradley Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. |
