July 28, 1949 Virginia Lee "Jennie" [Stewart] Archer July 6, 1868 ~ July 28, 1949 Last Rites Set For Pioneer Funeral services are set at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Bailey for Mrs. Jennie Lee Archer, East Main, 80-year-old pioneer of this area. She died at 2:45 a.m. today in a local hospital after an illness of ten days due to a heart ailment. Her husband, R. L. Archer, died 22 years ago. Thge couple moved here 59 years ago from Montague County, Tex., after their marriage July 5, 1888. She was born Jennie Lee Stewart in Boliver, Mo., August 6, 1868 but moved to Texas when she was seven years of age. The family lived in the Bailey community most of their lives. Mrs. Archer was a member of the Methodist church. The Rev. E. E. Alexander will officiate at the service. Directors of Callaway~Smith Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements. Survivors are two sons, Tom, of Bailey and Roy, of route 2, Marlow, four daughters, Mrs. Allen Chesser, Marlow, Mrs. B. H. Crawford, West Monroe, La.; Mrs. Wade R. Lavern, Sallisaw, and Mrs. O. F. Davis, route 3. Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. M,. A. Morrison, Marlow; two brothers, G. W. Stewart, Marlow, and M. S. Stewart, Rush Springs. There are 36 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Grandsons will serve as bearers. They are J. T. Archer, John Etier, Dell Wright, Bobby Martin, Roy F. Archer and Jack Whitehead. |
June 6, 1968 John Thomas "Tom" Archer March 31, 1889 ~ June 6, 1968 Archer Services Held Saturday Funeral services for John Thomas Archer, 70, father of Mrs. B. M. Selman of Rush Springs, were held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the Bailey Baptist Church with Rev. Alvin McCornell, Tuttle, officiating Archer died at 12:25 p.m. Thursday in a Marlow nursing home following an apparent heart attack. He was born on March 31, 1889, in Spanish Fort, Texas. On June 24, 1912 he was married to Hester Todd in Bailey. She died December 5, 1959. A retired farmer, he had lived in the Bailey area, southeast of Rush Springs, since 1890. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Burial was in the cemetery at Bailey under direction of the Callaway~Smith Funeral Home. Survivors include two sons, J. M. Archer, Hobbs, N. M. and Kenneth Archer of Cox City; four dasughters, Mrs. Billy Bowers, Columbus, Ga., Mrs. Leonard Boydston of Marlow, Mrs. Edward Dorsey of Oklahoma City, and Mrs. B. M. Selman of Rush Springs; four sisters, Mrs. Alice Chesser and Mrs. Pearl Davis, both of Marlow, Mrs. Rose Crawford of Lawton, and Mrs. Jewel Loverin of Salisaw; and one brother, Roy Archer, Marlow. |
October 25 1976 Roy Coates Archer March 9, 1906 ~ October 21, 1976 Roy Archer Funeral Held Roy Coates Archer, 70, lifetime resident of this area, died Thursday at 10:00 a.m., in a Chickasha hospital following a short illness. Archer was born in Marlow and was married December 21, 1929 in Marlow to Susan Kathryn Decker. He was a member of the Baptist Church in Bailey and he was a retired farmer and carpenter. Survivors are his wife, Susan, of the home; one son, Roy F. Archer, Marlow; three daughters, Mrs. Cline L. Craven, Mrs. Carl A. Medell, both of Marlow; Mrs. Dickey L. Whaley, Duncan; eight grandchilfren; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Davis and Mrs. Jewell Lovern, Marlow. Services were at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Callaway~Smith~Cobb Chapel conducted by Rev. Alvin Miller. Burial was in Bailey Cemetery. |
April 2, 1940 Harold Todd Archer December 14, 1917 ~ March 31, 1940 Harold Archer Rites Monday Second in Bailey Family to Die Within a Year of Same Trouble. Burial Monday Harold Archer, 22 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Archer of Bailey died Sunday evening about 6 o'clock at the Weedn Hospital in Marlow. He was the second son in the family to die within a year and both deaths were the result of appendicitis. A brother, Melton, died March 9, 1939 from appendicitis. Harold had been in the hospital six weeks following an operation for a ruptured appendix. Harold was born near Bailey December 14, 1917. He had made his home in this community all of his life and was well known and popular among his many friends. He is survived by his parents and four sisters, Mrs. Helen Etter, Edna Faye, Dorothy and Billy Sue Archer, and two brothers, J. T., Jr. and Kenneth, all of Bailey. His grandparents are Mrs. J. L. Archer of Bailey and Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Todd of Marlow. Funeral services were held at the Bailey Schoolhouse Monday afternoon. The Rev. T. M. Tate of Cox City conducted the service. Mrs. Flow Briscoe and Mrs. Ode Short sang special numbers accompanied by Mrs. Holman Tims. Pallbearers were Herman Mayes, Odell Wright, Frank Walker, Donnie Lower, Grady Fine, and Bobby Martin. Burial was in the Bailey cemetery. Callaway~Smith Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. |
December 20, 2010 Roy F. Archer November 5, 1930~ December 20, 2010 Roy F. Archer, 80, of Marlow died Monday, December 20, in Duncan. A graveside service was held Wednesday, December 22, at the Bailey Cemetery, with the Rev. Ted Bulla officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Callaway~Smith~Cobb Funeral Home of Marlow. Roy was born Wednesday, November 5, 1930, in Rush Springs to Roy Coats and Susan Kathlyn [Decker] Archer. He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 and was employed as a parts manager for Robbins Motors for many years. Roy married the former Donna Faye Fullerton on May 8, 1952. They had two biological daughters, Vanna Kay and Jill Ann, and a niece he regarded as his adopted daughter, Sheila Jo Deal. Roy loved playing music and watching old Westerns. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and gardening. Roy was a member of Bailey Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jenny Sue Medell and Anna Rose Craven; a nephew, Charlie Medell. Survivors include his wife, Donna Faye, of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Vanna and Leslie Holt of Bray, Jill and Bruce Manning of Lindsay, and Sheila and Wyatt Gibson of Davis; five grandchildren and their spouses, Leesha Kay [Holt] and Michael Stallons of Frisco, Texas, Amanda Mae [Holt] and Kyle Terrell of Fort Worth, Texas, Bruce Kyle Manning of Ada, Meredith Laura~Mae [Gibson] and T. J. Banks of Chesapeake, Va., and Julianne Kathlyn Manning of Lawton; two great grandchildren, Mason Lane Stallons and Morgan Alyssa Terrell; a sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Dickey Whaley of Marlow; and numerous nieces and nephews. |
