© Sevier Funeral Home Chickasha, Oklahoma October 2002 September 10, 1928 ~ October 19, 2002 George "Monroe" Jones was born September 10, 1928, in Rush Springs, Oklahoma, the son of Earl and Ophelia Jones, and passed from this life on October 19, 2002, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. He married Dorothy Lucille Hampton on March 19, 1945, in Duncan, Oklahoma. Monroe and Dorothy had four children; two sons, Truman and Charles, and two daughters, Dorothy and Virginia. Monroe began working in the lumber business at the age of 13 for Stephenson-Brown Lumber Company in Chickasha, later managing the Stephenson-Brown Lumber Yard in Verden from 1958-1967. In 1967 he went to work for Hughes Lumber Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and in 1978 he began working for Gordon White Lumber Company. His first assignment with Gordon White was managing the Pauls Valley yard, and throughout his career he managed several yards until his retirement in June of 2002. Monroe also served on the Oklahoma Lumberman's Association Board of Directors from 1990-1992. He was preceded in death by: his son, Truman Wayne Jones, Sr. of Muskogee, in February of 2000; 1 brother, Charlie E. Jones, Sr. of Amber; parents, Earl and Ophelia Jones of Chickasha; several nieces, nephews and friends. Survivors include: wife, Dorothy Jones of the home; 1 son, Charles Jones of Amber; 2 daughters: Dorothy and her husband Buddy Winn of Verden, Virginia and her husband Terry Jolley of Amber; 1 daughter-in-law, Bobbye Jones of Muskogee; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren: Shannon Jones, daughters Shelby and Madison, Wayne and Robbie Jones, sons Jerrad and Grant, Jeff and Brenda Jones, son Jeffrey, Jr., Kimberly and Keith Anderson, son Kody, Douglas and Tabatha Jolley, daughter Tylee and son Tanner, Chuck Jones, Erin Jones, Roderick Jones, Chris and Dee Jolley, son Matthew and daughter Karmen, and Mashelle Jones; 3 brothers: W. E. "Red" and Alice Jones of Amber, Allan and Cleta Jones of Pocasset, Eldred and Ann Jones of Rush Springs; 2 sisters: Dorothy Franklin of Chickasha, Edna and Dwain Johnson of El Reno; 1 sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Jones of Amber; host of other family members. Interment will be in the Amber Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. Visitation for the family to meet friends will be Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Sevier Funeral Home. |
