© Alex Tribune Alex, Oklahoma Friday, January 16, 1941 Isom Clayborn "Clabe" Smith September 1855~ January 1941 Pioneer Farmer Passes on Last Week At the advanced age of eighty five years, Icem C. Smith, pioneer farmer, passed on last week at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. T. Palmer, east of town. Mr. Smith was born in Texas September 17, 1855. He was married to Miss Sarah Rutherford to the union was born fourteen children, nine of whom preceded the father in death. Mrs. Smith passed on in 1935. He was converted to the faith and became a member of the Church of Christ, remaining devoted to its teachings. Funeral services were conducted Friday at the East Side Church of Christ by Brother Stewart, and burial was in the Morris cemetery, southwest of town. Surviving him are three sons, Bob and Melvin Smith of California and Jesse of Alex, two daughters, Mrs. Mary Palmer of Alex and Mrs. Lizzie McClellan of Camden, Ark., nineteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. |
© Alex Tribune Alex, Oklahoma Friday, August 23, 1935 Sarah J. [Rutherford] Smith March 1867 ~ August 1935 Local Resident Dies Saturday Mrs. I. C. Smith, 68, passed away Saturday evening at her home one half mile north of Alex after an extended illness. For several years Mrs. Smith had been in poor health, although she had until recently been able to do most of her own housework. She was preparing the evening meal when seized with paralysis and about thirty minutes later the end came. The funeral services were held at 4 o'clock Sunday evening at the East Side Church of Christ with Rev. Brown of Amber in charge of the services. Burial was n the Morris cemetery. She leaves a husband, three sons, Bob and Jesse at home, and Pat, of Alex. One daughter, of Carnegie, also survives. |
