© Alex Tribune Alex, Oklahoma Friday, September 10, 1937 November 29, 1860 ~ September 4, 1937 Pioneer Citizen Passes On Saturday Mrs. Mary Ann Martin Ramsey passed away at her home here September 4, 1937, after a short illness. Mrs. Ramsey had been a resident of Alex the past twenty six years. Her passing is mourned by all who knew her. She was a faithful church member, a devoted mother, a good neighbor and a lovely Christian lady. Mrs. Ramsey was born November 29, 1860, at Muncie, Indiana, and later moved to Iowa with her parents and was united in marriage there to James William Ramsey. With her husband she came to Oklahoma in 1889 and located at the three day old tent town of Oklahoma City. The family moved to Alex in 1911. To this union was born twelve children, three daughters preceding her in death. Mr. Ramsey passed on in May, 1931. Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday, September 5, 1937, at the Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. G. C. Hill of Oklahoma City officiating. Left to mourn her loss are five sons, Warren, Austin, Dick, Floyd and Mayburn, all of Alex, four daughters, Mrs. Will Arthur of Luther, Mrs. Gertrude Cruse and Ethyl Moore of Oklahoma City, and Mrs. L. E. Sloan of Alex other relatives and a host of friends. Eight grandsons acted as pallbearers and the granddaughters were flower girls. Interment was at Morris Cemetery. |
