Remains of J. A. McDonald Laid to Rest Saturday

The funeral services for Mr. J. A. McDonald, who died at the home of his son, O. L. McDonald last Friday morning November 4, 1927, were held at the Church of Christ Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock and the remains laid to rest in Morris cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. T. R. Vaughn, his former pastor and warm friend in the presence of a large crowd of relatives, neighbors and friends. Many beautiful floral offerings bespoke the esteem in which he was held in the community.

Mr. McDonald was born in Wisconsin, in August, 1869, but at an early age moved with his parents to Dennison, Texas. At about 10 ears of age he went to Atoka, Ind. Ter., now Oklahoma where he grew to manhood and was married in 1887 to Miss Agnes Copeland. To them were born three children, a boy and girl who died in infancy and O. L. a respected citizen of Alex.

With his family he moved to Lehigh in 1905 and to Grady county in 1905 and a few years later settled at Alex, where he had since resided and no citizen was held in higher esteem.

He was kind and affectionate in his home and his wife who had been in ill health for several years and who was in Chickasha under the care of a specialist at the time of his death, was given his tenderest affection and care. He possessed a cheerful disposition and although only out of the hospital a short time, he talked lightly of his ailments. He was down town the afternoon before his death and laughed and joked with his friends in his usual cheerful manner and no one could think that he was to be called away so soon.

He united with the Church of Christ about four years ago and tried to be a true follower of his Saviour and in his last moments gave assurance that all was well and that he had always done the best he could.

He was an Odd Fellow and a member of the Knights of Pyhias.

He is survived by his widow, his son, two grandchildren and other relatives who keenly feel their loss of a true husband, father and friend. Relatives from out of town attending the funeral were: L. G. Copeland, J. H. Copeland and Mrs. C. C. Ellis of Muskogee, Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Nichols of Sulphur, Mrs. Ray Pool and little son of Madill, and Mrs. Chas. Williams and son of Ardmore.

The Tribune joins the citizens of Alex and community in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.
