© Alex Tribune Alex, Oklahoma Friday, June 3, 1932 June 1, 1866 ~ May 27, 1932 J. D. McCraw Passes Away After Long Illness Joseph D. McCraw, aged 66, died at the home of his son, J. L. McCraw in Alex, at 10 o'clock, Friday morning, May 27, 1932, following an illness of long standing. Mr. McCraw was born in Mississippi, but when a small child moved with his parents to Arkansas, where he grew up. He was united in marriage with Miss Anna Oglesby in 1888 and to them were born 7 children, two of whom with their mother preceded him to the grave. He came with his family to the Indian Territory in 1894, settling near Ada, where he lived until 1903, when he moved to Maud. Eight years later he purchased a homestead in Atoka county where he made his home until after his family was married and gone. Failing health coming on forced him to leave his home and he had been living around with his children, but calling Alex his home. He was with his daughter, south of San Antonio, when he seemed to realize that his time was short and sent for his son, Joe, to come after him. They had been here only a few days when death claimed him. He was not a member of any church organization, but delighted in reading his Bible and attended the various churches when his health permitted. The funeral services were held at the McCraw home Sunday morning conducted by Elder W. G. Newberry and burial was made in the Morris cemetery. He is survived by two sons, J. L., Alex, and Frank, Roswell, New Mexico, and three daughters, Mrs. Clyde Goad, Alex, Mrs. C. R. Boggs, San Antonio, Texas, and Mrs. Rose, Ada, Okla. All with the exception of the later were here for the funeral, also two sisters and three brothers, two brothers, John B., Sulphur and C. T. and wife of Criner, attended the funeral. The family of Mr. McCraw want to thank their neighbors and friends for their kind assistance in the last illness, death and burial of their father and for every manifestation of sympathy and friendship shown them in their hour of grief. These will ever be a sacred memory to each of them. |
