©Family History Provided by granddaughter Wilma Jean [King] Nash May 2015 "R. E." King was named for his own father, William King, and for Robert E. Lee. His father, known as "Will" King, walked away from his family leaving his invalid wife, Winifrod and two children, R. E. King, at about age 13, and Jennetta Bell King at age 10. Ruby King Starkey stated, and Jewell Hobson's records show, that "Will" King was buried at Dixie Cemetery, Dixie, OK. R. E. King married E. Frances Gaskill on April 12, 1893 in Somervell Co., TX. They had 11 children but only 6 survived. Fannie died in 1914, shortly after the 11th child was born and died. R. E. never remarried. He and the children moved to Ryan, OK, then to Rush Springs, OK area, where he was a tenant farmer and farmed several places. He also raised and sold garden vegetables as well as doing shoe repairs. Other places they lived in Oklahoma in approximate order are Bailey, Alex near Chitwood and Sandy Grove where he died. |
