George Washington "G. W." Huff
June 14, 1859 ~ January 3, 1940

After an illness of two years due to the infirmities of the mounting years, George W. Huff succumbed at six o'clock Wednesday morning, after reaching a decade beyond his allotted three-score-and-ten years.

Mr. Huff had been a resident of this community and town since 1908, and here he reared a family, was an active member in the Baptist church he loved so well, and was of the disposition which won and kept a host of friends. His kindness and patience were always in evidence, even during his last and prolonged illness, and his concern was for those he left behind.

The family and friends will miss his abiding gentleness. He became a Christian early in life, and had been a deacon in his church a full forty years.

George Washington Huff was born June 14, 1859, in the State of Arkansas, the son of Pinkney and Leo Dicey Abernathy Huff.

He joined the westward march of venturesome pioneers and settled in Texas where, in 1882, he was married to Cora Randles. Eight children were born to this union, two of whom are deceased. With his family, Mr. Huff came to the Oklahoma settlement of 1889 and became established near Mill Creek where, later, his wife passed on.

On October 25, 1908, he was married to Lola Mae Freeman, who survives. Four of the seven children born to them are living.

Rev. N. N. Ivans delivered the funeral oration and spoke words of consolation to the sorrowing family from the Baptist church Thursday afternoon. His three favorite hyms, "I'd Rather Have Jesus," "Never Grown Old" and "Jesus, Hold My hand" reverberated softly through the church.

The pall bearers were W. A. Buchanan, W. R. Blakely, J. W. Foster, Theo Wardlow, Ray Foster and T. F. Foster, ad after the last sad rites were done they laid the body of this gentle man to rest in the Morris cemetery.

The flower girls were Ima Dean O'Rear, Wanda Lee Sewell and Yvonne Huff. Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Freeman of Brock were among the out of town relative who were hear for the funeral.

To mourn his death through the long years to come are the wife, six sons, Stetson, Bert and George in California, Lon in Dalhart, Texas, and Sterling and Russell Huff of the home town, four daughters, Mrs. Nellie Conrad of Duncan, Mrs. Oleta Marshall of Bradley, and Mrs. Della Sewell and Mrs. Jimmie O'Rear of Alex, twenty-three grandchildren, two great grandchildren and the multitude of friends, which includes everyone who knew him.
