Gordon February 6, 1896 ~ Auust 11, 1914 Local and Personal - Miss Ruby Gordon, age 18, died August 11, at 11 p.m., from the effects of general peritonitis and interred in Morris cemetery two and one half miles southeast of Alex. The bereaved have our sympathy © Alex Tribune Alex, Oklahoma August 21, 1914 Ruby R. Gordon Miss Ruby Gordon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. J. Gordon was born Feb. 5th, 1896 and departed this life Aug. 11th, 1914. After a long and painful illness her spirit bade farewell to its prison house of ?? and winged it's way to the great beyond from which no traveler returns. For three years Miss Ruby had been in poor health and since Feb. of this year, had been sick most of the time. A dear and bright, sunbeam cherished by both parents and sister, has wafted its way to a land supernal. How she is missed by the household. Time alone can heal the ghastly wound inflicted in the hearts of her loved ones, by her untimely demise. The boatman bale with his priceless freight has crossed the deep dark river to the other shore and cast ashore to lend unknown. All that loving care and medical skill could do was done to keep her here but to Mafer said "It is enough. While loving hearts are sad indeed, their grief is sweetened by the hope of meeting her in a laud where there is no sickness and death and where heart aches are unknown. She is survived by a father, mother and two sisters, two half sisters and a host of friends who mourn her loss. Written by a friend. |
© Alex Tribune Alex, Oklahoma February 23, 1917 Reuben Benson Simeron Gordon March 17, 1915 ~ February 26, 1916 The orphan baby which Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Gordon had taken into their home, died last Thursday of pneumonia. The little fellow was 10 months and 28 days old and had been cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Gordon since the death of its mother when it was only five months old and they had learned to love it as their own child. It had grown to be a bright, interesting child and had many endearing ways that will cause its foster parents to keenly feel their loss. The funeral services were held Friday, conducted by the Rev. J. D. Kidd, after which the little form was laid to rest in the Morris cemetery southeast of Alex. Thank you from family "We wish to than the good people of Alex and vicinity, who so faithfully and earnestly assisted us in the late sickness and death of our orphan baby, Ruben Benson Simeron. May God's richest blessings rest with you all. Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Gordon." According to the newspaper articles, the Gordon's hadn't adopted this child and by the "Thank You" from the Gordons, they had not given him their surname. The stone in the cemetery for him is not an old one and was possibly set later by someone who didn't know his birth surname was "Simeron" and not "Gordon". The death date on the stone is also different than the date of the newspaper.] |
