© Alex Tribune Alex, Oklahoma Friday, November 29, 1929 Julia Margaret [Mills] Franklin January 29, 1878 ~ November 24, 1929 Mrs. Franklin Passes Mrs. W. E. Franklin died at her home south of Alex Sunday night, Nov. 24 after an illness of some time, aged 52 years. She was born in Tennessee and was united in marriage to W. E. Franklin in that state. To them were born 8 children, one dying in infancy and another, Miss Bessie Franklin who died in Jan. of this year. Not any too strong, grief for her daughter together with other complications hastened her death. With her husband and family she came to Oklahoma about 22 years ago, settling in the Alex community where she spent the remainder of her life. In early life she was converted and united with the Methodist church and had since tried to live a consistent Christian life. The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Morris Cemetery, conducted by Rev. C. E. Smith, pastor of the Missionary Baptist church and her remains were laid to rest beside her daughter. She is survived by her husband, six children, 5 brothers, John Mills of Alex; J. A., Tom, Marshall and Hodge all of Rush Springs and one sister, Mrs. E. J. Elliott of Higley, Arizona. Unmarked Grave - No stone has been found in the cemetery for this individual. |
© Alex Tribune Alex, Oklahoma Friday, November 7, 1919 John W. Franklin October 1883 ~ November 1919 Man Dropped Dead on Station Platform J. W. Franklin of Lawton, dropped dead on the depot platform Tuesday, shortly after the noon hour, a few minutes after getting off the train. He was the brother of W. A. Franklin of this place and came here from Tennessee last August to visit his brother whom he had not seen for 15 years. About the first of October he secured a position as lineman for a telephone company and was later transferred to Lawton. His brother received notice a few days ago of his illness and went to Lawton after him and they had just gotten off the train when he died a few minutes later. The body was taken to the Franklin home and prepared for burial which took place in the Morris cemetery the following afternoon. He is survived by a little daughter 9 years old, a father, two sisters and two brothers, all with the exception of W. A. live in Tennessee. Unmarked grave. No stone has been found during various cemetery surveys for this individual. |
© Alex Tribune Alex, Oklahoma Wednesday, January 4, 1928 Bessie Franklin 1911 ~ January 1929 Death of Young Girl Miss Bessie Franklin died Wednesday night at the Cottage hospital from pneumonia, following an operation for appendicitis which she underwent about two weeks ago, aged 17 years. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Franklin and a niece of John Mills of Alex. The funeral services were held at the Missionary Baptist church at Alex, conducted by Rev. C. A. Smith, and burial was made in the Morris cemetery southeast of Alex. She is survived by her parents, four brothers, two sisters and other relatives. Unmarked grave. No stone has been found during various cemetery surveys for this individual. |
