Ellis September 29, 1827 ~ May 25, 1921 Mrs. R. E. Ellis was born in Pennsylvania, September 19th, 1827 In her nineteenth year she was married to Dr. Caleb Carr of Shawneetown, Ill., and to them were born three children. One daughter, Mrs. L. C. Weaver is living and was with her mother to minister to her in her last sickness and death. After the death of Dr. Carr she was married in 1853 to Mr. Halsey Ellis of Paducah, Ky. Mrs. Ellis is survived by her daughter, one brother, A. J. Jelly, of Ord, Neb., two grand children, Mr. J. B. Weaver of Maynard, Ark. and Mrs. Janie McClintock of Alex, seven grand children and two great, great grand children. She was reared by strict Presbyterian parents of the old type and no manner of work was permitted to be done on her father's place on Sundays. In early childhood she united with the church of her father and mother and lived true to her vows until death. She had been sick for some time but was patient and repeatedly told those about her that she was ready to go and was not afraid to meet her Saviour. On Wednesday, May 26, at 1 o'clock she entered into that rest which is promised to the children of God. Thursday, we buried her body in the quiet little city of the dead southeast of Alex, to rest until that hour when the angel, sent from God, shall proclaim that time is no more. Loved ones and friends, let us be prepared to meet her again with joy. Robert M. Templeton. |
