Thaddeus Isaac "Thad" Connor
November 4, 1862 ~ July 10, 1940

Thaddeus Conner Claimed By Grim Reaper

The shadows enveloped a loved citizen of our little town the other evening and Thaddeus Isaac Conner began the long journey to the Land Beyond. Mr. Conner had been in poor health for a number of months and was seriously ill for the past ten weeks, so the end was not unexpected Wednesday evening when the call came. He had lived 77 years, 8 months and 6 days.

There will ever be a place of love and respect for this fine old gentleman in the hearts of everyone who knew him. Although his path in life had not been particularly free from the obstacles that clutter most of our pathways, yet he radiated good cheer and ever spoke words of encouragement to his family and the multitude of people he knew as friends. His courage in facing the problems of life and its vicissitudes was a tribute to admire, and his understanding of human hearts a most remarkable heritage.

When he was a lad of seven both his parents died and he made his home with an uncle in Mississippi until he was sixteen, when he went to the State of Texas where, in 1889, he was married to Miss Florence Simms who passed on a year later leaving an infant daughter. He was married in 1891 to Miss Mary Luther, who survives.

With his family he came to Oklahoma in 1906, moving to this community in 1911 where he engaged in farming and in later years in the shoe and harness repair business until failing health came to him.

At the Baptist church Saturday afternoon Rev. N. N. Ivans spoke of the promises of the Lord and tender hands carried the casket to its final resting place in Morris cemetery, where he will sleep until time itself shall be no more.

To mourn his passing and to revere his memory are the wife; four sons, Fred and Ira of Colorado, Dayton of Illinois and Claude of Alex; three daughters, Mrs. Bessie Todd of Ninnekah, Mrs. Ben Jackson of Wynnewood and Mrs. Essie Couser of California, twenty-five grandchildren.

Now will come lonely years for those who loved him, but the memory of his kindness and of his spoken encouragement will be as a beacon guiding them through the mists and the difficulties of everyday life.
