© Alex Tribune Alex, Oklahoma Thursday, March 6, 1941 Benjamin Butler Carnes November 9, 1878 ~ February 25, 1941 Ben Carnes Loses Life Through Accidental Fall - Ben B. Carnes, pioneer resident of the community, succumbed to injuries received Friday night as the result of a fall from a bridge in the outskirts of Chickasha. His death follows by about two months the passing of a son, J. B., who also lost his life through an accident. While there are no known witnesses to the accident, indications are that Mr. Carnes stumbled over the low railing of a bridge while walking at the side of the road, and landed head first on a cluster of rocks several feet below. Funeral services were held at the East Side Church of Christ Tuesday afternoon, with burial in the Morris cemetery, southwest of town. Mr. Carnes was 67 years of age. Left to mourn his untimely passing are three sons, Everett, Ernest and Ben, and two daughters, Mrs. Julia Story and Mrs. Mary Nichols. Mrs. Carnes passed on several years ago. |
