James Ira Burtcher
April 30, 1909 ~ November 7, 1929

Alex Soldier Laid to Rest in Morris Cemetery

The remains of James I. Burtcher arrived at Bradley Sunday morning, Nov. 10, 1929, from Fort D. A. Russell, Wyoming, where he met his death on Nov. 7. The body was accompanied by his brother, Neal Burtcher from Fort Russell, and taken to the home of a brother, E. W. Burtcher.

The funeral services were held from the E. W. Burtcher home Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Elder W. G. Newberry, and the body was laid to rest in the Morris cemetery southeast of Alex, beside his father who preceded him in death two years ago.

James Ira Burtcher was born Aug. 30, 1909 and died Nov. 7, 1929, being 20 years, 2 months and 8 days old. With his brother Neal he joined the army two years ago, and they were sent to Fort D. A. Russell, Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he was stationed at the time of his death. His death came suddenly, the result of a motor accident at Fort Russell, and was a shock to his relatives and friends. He was beloved by a host of friends at Bradley and Alex and in high esteem by his officers as may be seen by the following letter to his brother from his commanding officer.

He is survived by three brothers Everett and Boney of Bradley and Neal of Fort D. A. Russell, and two aunts, Mrs. Laura Morrison of Lawton and Mrs. Hattie Agee of Roff, all of whom were present at the funeral.
