J. Stein, where she has been an invalid suffering from rheumatism and a heart disorder for the past eight years. Mrs. Brown was eight-five years of age. Mrs. Brown had been a resident of this community since 1905, at which time she received her land allotment here. She had been a Christian for many years and had recently placed her membership with the Methodist church here. She was affectionately known throughout the community as "Grandma" Brown. Seldom was her room bare of great bouquets of fragrant flowers, tokens of friendship and affection from her great circle of friends, which included practically everyone in the entire community. Each year, on her birthday, a multitude of old friends came to her bedside and showered her with gifts of appreciation for her courage and fine patience. Almost to the end she [had an] interest in world affairs and discussed with clarity the events of current history and economics. During the long years of her invalidism she had the constant and devoted attention of her only daughter, Mrs. A. J. Stein. The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Methodist Church by Rev. Grady N. Ross of Blanchard and Rev. Grover, of Maysville. Interment was in the Morris cemetery. Pallbearers were H. T. Conover, D. B. Patterson, Claude Conner, Audie Roberson, O. T. Lents and Mike Philbin, and in charge of flowers were Mrs. W. W. Rousey, Mrs. L. E. Sloan, Eugenia Foster, Mrs. H. T. Hancock, Mrs. Oscar Lents and Gertrude Lents. Naomi Gardner Brown was born in Tennessee, November 19, 1852, the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. J. J. Gardner. With her parents she lived in Missouri and Texas until 1867 when they came to Indian Territory. She was united in marriage with Harry Guiou, who passed on a few years later. On Nov. 9, 1882, she was married to Rose Walker, who died in 1900. She later was married to Mr. Brown, and came to Alex in 1905. She leaves to mourn her loss two sons, Harry Guiou of Colera and Rose Walker of Texas, and one daughter, Mrs. A. J. Stein, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. |
