August 23, 1978 Oscar Lane Branch January 6, 1892 ~August 23, 1978 Funeral service for Oscar Lane Branch, 86, Bradley, will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church, Alex, under direction of Sevier Funeral Home. Rev. V. E. Gibson, pastor of the church will officiate. Mr. Branch was born January 6, 1892, in Franklin County, Ark. He died today in Lindsay Municipal Hospital, Lindsay. He and Lona May Benham were married December 22, 1926 in Alma, Ark. She preceded him in death in 1972. A farmer-stockman, Mr. Branch had lived in the Alex, Bradley and Lindsay area since 1929. He also worked for the Oklahoma Farmers Union Insurance Co. for 38 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alex and had served in WWI. Mr. Branch was a member of the Alex Masonic Lodge and received his 50 year pin this past winter. Survivors include one son, Benham John Branch of Lindsay; and one daughter, Mrs. Carrie Dutton of Purcell; three sisters, Mrs. Katie Chandler, Mrs. Bess Chapman and Mrs. Margaret Gibson, and one brother, Sam H. Branch, all of Huntington Park, Calif.; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Interment will be in Alex Cemetery. |
© The Chickasha Express-Star Chickasha, Oklahoma February 2002 Joy Christeen [Scroggins] Branch February 19, 1941 ~ February 22, 2002 Joy Christeen Branch, 61, of Lindsay, OK, passed away from this life to be with the Lord on Friday, February 22, 2002. She was born February 19, 1941, to Frank Lorenzo Scroggins and Grace Pendley Scroggins in the town of Purdy, OK, which she called home until marrying Benham John (B.J.) Branch of Alex, OK on October 17, 1964. The couple made their home on a farm located northeast of Bradley where she lived the rest of her life as a Christian, a Baptist, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a friend. Christeen was a secondgeneration member of the Purdy O.H.C.E. Club, of which her mother was a charter member, for 44 years. Christeen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bradley, an inspector for the Grady County Election Board, an organizer and leader in Garvin County rural/agricultural activities, and, most important of all to her, a good homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Benham John "B.J.", if Lindsay; daughter Tracy Branch, of Stillwater, OK; son Richard Branch and wife Stephanie, of Washington, OK; grandchildren Josey Branch and Kassi Branch, of Skiatook, OK; one sister, Ruby and husband, Wiley Gosnell, of Lindsay, OK; nieces and nephews: Tony, Anita Jarrod, Jesse and Justin Gosnell, Mark, Dara, Travis, Tyler and Kayla Gosnell, all of Lindsay, OK; Derek and LaDonna Bullard, of Tulsa, OK; Len Scroggins, of Arlington, VA; and Tiffany and Shan Macklin, of Byers, Texas. She was preceded in death by both parents and one brother, Leon Scroggins. Christeen will be best remembered as a kind woman; whom after having known her, would wish for you to be will loved, well fed, and to know Jesus Christ. Funeral Services will be at the First Baptist Church in Bradley, OK, on Tuesday, February 26, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Cletis Lee conducting the service. Burial will be in Alex Cemetery, Alex, OK. Pallbearers will be Gaylon Mitchusson, Darrell Richardson, Tony Gosnell, Mark Gosnell, Derek Bullard and David Wall.
