© Chickasha Express~Star Chickasha, Oklahoma December 10, 1974 George William "Bill" Bowen March 4, 1897 ~ December 8, 1974 Funeral service was held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday for George W. "Bill" Bowen, 77, Alex, in the First Baptist Church, Alex, with Rev. Kenneth Tatum of Wynnewood and Rev. Bobby Ayres officiating. Mr. Bowen was born March 4, 1897, at Comanche. He died Sunday in Grady Memorial Hospital following a sudden heart attack. He moved to the Chitwood community near Alex in 1930. He had resided in Alex since 1940. He and Miss Olean Phillips were married on July 19, 1926, at Rush Springs. Mr. Bowen was a farmer and stockman most of his life, retiring in 1970. He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Alex. He is survived by his wife, Olean, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Vera Horn of Fort Worth, Texas; one granddaughter; three great grandsons; two brothers, Babe Bowen and Joe Bowen of Bakersfield, Texas; one sister Mrs. Mattie Snellgrove of Heavener. Music was provided by Mrs. Bob Brand, organist, and Mrs. C. A. Rayburn, pianist. Singers were Mrs. J. E. Gage, Mrs. Peggy Gosnell, Mrs. Ruby Starkey, Mrs. Wirt Brand, Jr., Mrs. Roland Brashears, Jess Spivey, J. C. Bryant, Mrs. and Mrs. G. B. Wyatt, Mrs. Wilford Lyons and Guy P. Hughes. Pallbearers were Reford Gage, Dial Baker, Glenn Jones, Kurley White, Clarence Chapman, and Charles Addy. Interment was in the Alex Cemetery under the direction of the Sevier Funeal Home. |
