The family will receive friends for a visitation at Primrose Funeral Service, Thursday, December 10, 2009 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held Friday, December 11, 2009 at Wynnewood View Cemetery with her grandsons serving as honorary bearers. Services are under the direction of Primrose Funeral Service. She was born March 19, 1913, in Wynnewood, OK to Joseph Harvey Skaggs and Ada Franks Skaggs. She attended Wynnewood View and Daylight schools. She married the love of her life on Nov 18, 1933 in Wynnewood, and they had one son and four daughters. She worked side by side with her husband farming and raising their children -- and also welcoming many extended family members to live with her family through the years. In 1945, she left the country to live in town and through the years owned a laundry business and a furniture store in Wynnewood, but spent most of her life as a homemaker. She moved to Norman in 1965 to help with her mother. She was an avid seamstress and quilter. She also knew her way around the kitchen and was known for her yeast rolls and sweet iced tea -- and there was always room for just one more at her table. Her home was always filled with music, laughter and fun. Her infant son, Paul Jr.; husband of 64 years, Paul Van; her parents; four brothers, Ervin, Charles, Luther and William; four sisters, Ozzie, Chloe, Mattie and Jewel; and one grandchild preceded Mrs. Palmertree in death. She is survived by her four daughters, Mary Adella Hunter, Nova Jean Hornback and Beverly Ann Hood, all of Norman, and Hattie Marie "Jo" Laughlin of Rush Springs; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. |
