October 6, 2013 Leo Pentney "L P" Gaines March 14, 1925 ~ October 6, 2013 Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 10th, at Minton Memorial Chapel with Jake Minton officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 pm Friday, October 11th, at Wynnewood View Cemetery, Wynnewood, Oklahoma with Rev. Joe Ainsworth officiating. Burial is under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. L. P. was born March 14, 1925, in Fitzhough, Oklahoma to Harvey Leo and Mamie Eva Webb Gaines. He served in the US Army during WWII. He married Ester Edwards February 10, 1944, in Sulphur, Oklahoma. He was saved in 1946 at a prayer meeting at their home. He was a contractor in construction, building 12 churches with his son in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. He retired at the age of 79. He loved his work, and taking children camping around the country. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Edward Leo Gaines and a sister Willa Mae Gaines. He is survived by Ester Edward Gaines, his wife of 69 years and 8 Months of the home; son, David Gaines of Fritch; daughters, Joyce Smith and husband Walter of Dover, Arkansas, Frances Schleg and husband Tom of Walkerton, Indiana, Joan Gaines of Amarillo, Phillas Rich of Amarillo, Ree Hamilton and husband Larry of Fritch; sister-in-law, Vina Cox of Arkansas; Step-brothers, Dick Shaw of Charleston, SC and Bob Shaw of Russellville, Arkansas; 12 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. April 13, 2015 Ester [Edwards] Gaines February 10, 1926 ~ April 12, 2015 Ester Gaines, 89, of Fritch, died Sunday, April 12, 2015. Services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 16 at Canadian River Cowboy Church, with Pastor Billy Paul Vinson officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m., Friday, April 16 at the Wynnewood View Cemetery in Wynnewood, Oklahoma under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors. Ester was born in Wynnewood, Oklahoma on February 10, 1926 to John Thomas and Alice Bratcher Edwards. She married Leo Gaines on February 10, 1944 at Sulphur, Oklahoma. Ester was saved in 1946 at a prayer meeting in their home. She was a member of the Canadian River Cowboy Church. Ester was a housewife and also worked in the ship yards during World War II. She used both of these experiences to teach her son how to weld and her daughters how to sew. Ester loved horses and even made it in the top 10 in the nation for Non-Pro Pleasure Driving in the Appaloosa Horse Club. Ester is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo in 2013; son, Edward Leo Gaines; five brothers and three sisters. Survivors are her son, David Gaines of Fritch; daughters, Joyce Smith and husband, Walter of Dover, Arkansas; Frances Schleg and husband, Tom of Walkerton, Indiana, Joan Gaines and Phillas Rich both of Amarillo, and Ree Hamilton and husband, Larry of Fritch; sister, Vina Cox of Mansfield, Arkansas; fourteen grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews. |
