She was born August 24, 1937 in Foster, Oklahoma to Clyde and Essie [Dennis] Shirley. In 1954 Lavada Shirley and Herman Dale McCurley were married in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. The Garvin County area has been her home all of her life. A very special hobby that Lavada had was her grandchildren. She participated in various activities with all of her family including camping and playing cards. It was no surprise that she had just as much fun watching Monday Night Football as much as anyone else in the family especially her grandchildren and nephews. She attended the Beaty Baptist Church with her family when she was able. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Rodney McCurley and a daughter, Quania McCurley. Also preceding her was a brother, Wendell Shirley and a sister, Letta Beddo. Lavada is survived by a daughter, Patty Phillips and her husband, Lynn, of Wynnewood; seven grandchildren, Angila Seale and her husband, Randy, Jason Brumley, Brian Brumley, Trey, Rusty, Clay and Levi Phillips; two great-grandchildren, Macy Dunn and Jace Brumley; one brother, Aubrey Shirley, of Seminole and one sister, Ellen Kinslow, of Pauls Valley. Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, June 26, 2003 at 10:00 AM at the Whitebead Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Finis Steelman. Interment will be at the Whitebead Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home. |
