Worth was born February 26, 1923 in Paoli, Oklahoma to Walter Stone and Mae [Dodd] Whitaker. He passed away August 11, 2005 in Ft. Worth, Texas at the age of 82 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. Charlie worked in the oil "patch' in the 1950's and 1960's following the oil boom from Texas to California. It was a transfer to Bakersfield, California where he found the place he wanted to settle down and call home. He became a successful owner of Whitaker Awning and was active in and volunteered many hours to the Masonic Lodge, The Elks Club and the Lions Club. Charlie loved sports, especially golf and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mae Whitaker; 4 brothers, Coy, Otis, Ogle and Ray Whitaker. Surviving family include his 3 children, Yvonne Blevins of Ft. Worth, Texas, Wally and Laura Whitaker and Pam Ellis of Bakersfield, California; 1 sister, Freda Bectal and her husband George of Broken Arrow; 1 brother, Phillip Whitaker and his wife, Margie of Florida. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at 11:00 am at Stufflebean Chapel officiated by Pastor Andrew Werley. Burial will be at Paoli Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home. |
