Former Commissioner Dies: Funeral Today

Horace Dewey Talley, 80, of 307 N. Kemp St., a longtime resident of the Johnston County area and a former county commissioner here, died Tuesday in Johnston Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

Born in Mannsville when it was part of the I.T., he was reared in SE Oklahoma and lived most of his life in the county. He was a retired furniture store operator.

Mr. Talley is survived by his widow, Emma Pearl; a son, Sterling J. Talley of Midland, TX; a daughter, Mary Lee Jarrett of Austin, TX; three sisters, Annie Jarmon of Oklahoma City, Eva Hughes of Paoli, OK, and Kate Tate of Paoli; and 5 grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. James Watson officiating. Burial will be in Paoli Cemetery.
