Sherrod, of Stratford, will be held Monday, December 1, 2003 at 10:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church of Stratford, Oklahoma. Rev. Charles Baumann will be officiating with a son, Steve Sherrod providing the eulogy. Interment will be in the Paoli Cemetery. Jess was born to Willard Rufus and Mary Ella [Thompson] Sherrod on November 5, 1913 in Antioch, Oklahoma and was one of eight children. He passed away on the evening of Thursday, November 27, 2003 in his home surrounded by family and friends. He grew up in the Paoli and Pauls Valley area, graduating from Pauls Valley High School in 1930. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 42 years of service as a District Engineer, having resided in Bethany, Putnam City and Lawton, Oklahoma during his career. Upon his retirement in 1977, he and his wife, Edrie, moved from Lawton to Stratford where they built their home. Edrie preceded him in death on January 25, 1986 after 51 years together. In 1988, Jess married Elta Winona Hughes, of Stratford, where they have continued to reside. Jess is survived by his wife of 15 years, Winona, of the home; a son, Philip Sherrod, and grandson, Sandro Sherrod, both of New York City; a daughter, Nancy Wilson, of Tulsa; a son, Steve Sherrod and his wife, Linda, of Bartlesville and granddaughter, Alison, of Ft. Collins, Colorado and grandson, Scott, of Stillwater; He is also survived by his brother, Harold Sherrod and his wife, Lenore, Paoli. Memorials made be made in memory of Jess L. Sherrod to the American Cancer Society. |
