March 5, 1920 January 21, 1900 ~ March 5, 1920 Kathrina "Kitty" Malissia Shaw was born in Indian Territory, Chickasaw County, Oklahoma to James David Shaw and Julia Ann Howard Shaw. She married Robert Lee Pruitt on August 23, 1919, Garvin County, Oklahoma. Kitty died in childbirth with their first child. Robert never remarried. Robert always blamed himself for Kitty's death because she had persuaded him that she did not need a Doctor during her pregancy or at time of delivery of the baby, instead Kitty choose to use one of the mid-wifes in the community of Paoli who had for many years been delivering all her family's babies. Robert always believed that if he had held firm and insisted Kitty consult a Doctor during her pregancy and had that Doctor been in attendance during the birth of their baby that Kitty and the baby would have lived. A Doctor probably would not have made a difference in the outcome for Kitty and her baby. Kitty had a very short life but she was much loved by her husband during their brief marriage and afterward. |
