September 12, 2002 January 14, 1906 ~ September 10, 2002 Flora Pemberton, 96, entered her eternal life with the Lord on September 10, 2002. She was born on January 14, 1906 in Dougherty, OK to John Henry & Gracie Strickland. She received her educational degree from East Central Univ. & OKC Univ. Flora retired from Tinker AFB after 25 years as an educational specialist. She immediately became involved in the political process and as a volunteer in the Okla. aging network. She was past President of the Okla. Federation of NARFE, District V.P. & Pres. of local chapter 184. Flora served as Asst. State Director of AARP, Pres. Pro Tem of the First Okla.: Silver -Haired Legislature, and served as an Okla. delegate to the White House Conference on Aging. She served as chairman of the Governor's Advisory Committee during Governor Nigh's administration. Flora was dedicated to issues that would improve the lives of all senior citizens and served in many capacities within the aging network. She was a member of Penn Avenue Christian Church where she served as chairman of the Church Board, on the Pastors cabinet, as a Deaconess and a choir member. Flora was preceded in death by two husbands, James M. Pemberton and James B. Wagner; her children, Jimie Sue Pemberton, John Harvey Pemberton, Jr. and her grandson, James Allen Pemberton. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Faye Pemberton; grandchildren, Deborah Nickels, Hollie Rayburn, Sherri Rogers, John Pemberton and Bart Bingham; 12 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Of all the accomplishments and joys in Flora's long life, the greatest was her family! Grandma- may we live our lives as you did yours-with no regrets! Services will be held at 10:00a.m., Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002 at Mercer Adams Chapel followed by interment at Paoli Cemetery, Paoli, OK. |
