© Wilson-Little Funeral Home Purcell, Oklahoma December 3, 2012 October 17, 1920 ~ December 3, 2012 Funeral Services for Geneva Wahoma [Yoakum] Blackwell, age 92, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 6, 2012, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the cemetery. Mrs. Blackwell passed away at St. Anthony's Hospital. Born in the Signal Hill Community near Rosedale, Geneva was the daughter of Dennis A. and Eva Velma [Jaye] Yoakum. Upon her graduation from Rosedale High School in 1938, she moved to OKC where she worked as a secretary in the public school system. On 6 Sept 1941, she married Troy Blackwell. During World War II, she worked at the Douglas Aircraft plant near OKC and then with John A. Brown & Co. During the late 60's and 70's she was employed at the University of Oklahoma. In 1956, Troy, Geneva and family moved from OKC to the Blackwell family farm east of Wayne. She resided here, working alongside Troy and their four children through the years, until failing health necessitated her moving to an assisted living center in Paul's Valley, OK in 2011. Further health challenges resulted in her move to Wynnewood, OK, nursing facility in the final months of her life. A member of the First Baptist Church of Wayne for over 50 years, she delighted in her children, grandchildren and extended family. She enjoyed cooking delicious meals for them and the many friends that came with them to her table. Preceding her in death were her parents; her infant brother Bland Dale and his twin sister, Frankie Vandale; her husband of 69 years, in 2010; her brother, James Harold, in 2003 and her sister, Dennisteen Van Wagoner, in 2004. Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law: Carolyn and Jim Lester; three sons and daughters-in-law: Alan and Joleta Blackwell; Rick and Melonie Blackwell and Bob and Fonda Blackwell; one brother: Dennis J. and wife, Hazel, ; 2 sisters-in-law: Ludia Yoakum and Betty Cotten; 18 Grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and 7 Great-Great Grandchildren. |
