Chief Roy A. Spears
July 26, 1953 ~ March 24, 2012


Chief Roy A. Spears, of Oklahoma City, was born July 26, 1953 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma to Rev. Charles Arthur and Vela Mae Spears. He passed away March 24, 2012 in Oklahoma City at the age of 58 years.

Roy grew up in the Wynnewood area.

He and Cindy Kay Turner were married in Texas on March 23, 1977.

Oklahoma City has been his home since 2004.

In 1975 he became a CLEET Certified Police Officer while working in Maysville, Oklahoma and later became the Chief of Police in Hennessey, Oklahoma and was there from 1981 until 1995. Then he moved to Healdton where he was Chief of Police from 1995 until 2004 when he retired.

He was also was a member of the I. O. O. F. Lodge # 314 in Oklahoma City and served as Oklahoma Grand Master in 1992 and 1993.

Surviving family include his wife of 35 years, Cindy Spears of the home; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda & Kevin Posey of Oklahoma City; and Nyree and Stoney Burris of Tupelo; 1 brother, Brian Spears of Holdenville; 2 sisters, Charlene Garcia of Yukon; and Mary Spears of Ada; 1 granddaughter who was his whole world, Stormy Dawn Burris; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Stufflebean-Coffey Chapel of Remembrance officiated by Rev. Paul Jackson and Rev. Louis Bennett

Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
