© Stufflebean~Coffey Funeral Home Pauls Valley, Oklahoma Sunday, February 21, 2010 Oliver Crittington Walker June 3, 1923 ~ February 21, 2010 Oliver C. Walker, 86, passed away at his home Sunday, February 21, 2010 after a year long battle with cancer. He was born June 3, 1923 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Porter C. and Bertha Mae [Gillian] Walker. Oliver grew up in Fletcher, Oklahoma and Pauls Valley. As a young man Oliver moved to Pauls Valley to live and learn the painting trade from his uncle, Howard Walker. He also learned the carpentry trade from his uncle Ollie "C.O." Walker. At the age of 19 he began serving 34 months with the 82nd Chemical Battalion in the United States Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a field lineman, laying and maintaining wire for telephone communications. A disable veteran, Walker earned the Silver Star with one oak leak cluster, Bronze Star, Purple Heart with 2 oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 battle stars with Bronze Arrowhead, World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Independence Medal, Armed Forces Lapel Button and Expert Automatic Rifleman Badge. Many of these medals were presented to him at a special Armed Forces Day Ceremony in 2001 - 56 years later. Sgt. Walker was Honorably Discharged in 1945. He returned to Pauls Valley where he became known as a creative man with many skills. He did home decorating and painting, floor work and cabinet making. This eventually lead to building houses in Midwest City and in Garvin County Communities. He was married to Mary Lou Colson in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma by on August 31, 1946 and celebrated 63 years together in August 2009. He and Mary Lou raised three children. He was later employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a Rural Letter Carrier from which he retired after 22 1/2 years. In 1981 he was voted the outstanding rural letter carrier for the State of Oklahoma. Olivet was a hard working man who loved his Lord and his family. He supported the Pauls Valley High School sports programs and served as PV Booster Club president one year. He ran the chain at most football games during the `60s and `70s and missed very few wrestling matches. He was a Mason and a charter member of the Valley Christian Church where he served as Deacon and Trustee. After retiring in 1984 he began building live animal traps as a hobby the kept him busy a long with working on his lawn and in his flower beds and fishing and the PV Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Evelyn Lee and one brother, A.T. "Tommy" Walker; an uncle, Fred Gillian and an aunt, Cora Gillian Gibson. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Walker of the home; one son, Larry and Marilyn Walker of Richardson, Texas; two daughters, Carmeleta Walker of Moore and Olivia Mackey of Tulsa; four grandchildren: Scott and Erin Walker of Moore, Marianne and Matt Cooper of Balch Springs, Texas, Ronnie Mackey and Clint and Keri Mackey, all of Sand Springs; six great-grandchildren: Isabella Walker, Brayden and Riley Mackey and Peyton and Owen Mackey; four sisters: Pauline Cocoran of Porum, Lorene and Lee Harris of Odessa, Texas, Ina Lou Dunn of Roseville, Michigan and Patricia and Harvey "Buzz" Mitchell of Moore; one brother, Bob and Doris Walker of Greenville, Arkansas; an uncle Roy Gillian; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family has requested that memorial be sent in Oliver C. Walker's name to the Valley Christian Church in Pauls Valley, Ok. 73075; the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Cancer Research or the charity of your choice. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Stufflebean Chapel of Remembrance officiated by Rev. Larry Cornforth. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Interment and professional services are under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home. |
© Stufflebean~Coffey Funeral Home Pauls Valley, Oklahoma February 28, 2016 Carmaleta "Carmon" Walker March 6, 1950 ~ February 28, 2016 Carmaleta "Carmon" Walker, of Moore, passed away February 28, 2016 in Moore, Oklahoma at the age of 65 years. Carmaleta was born March 6, 1950 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Oliver C. and Mary Lou [Colson] Walker. She was raised in Pauls Valley, attended Pauls Valley Schools and is a 1968 Pauls Valley High School Graduate. Carmaleta earned her Master's Degree in Education and has taught at the Edmond Memorial High School, Pauls Valley High School, and Metro-Tech in Oklahoma City. She retired about 10 years ago. She was a member of Mission Christian Church in Moore. Moore has been her home for over 32 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Oliver C. Walker and her sister, Olivia Lou Walker Mackey. Surviving family include her mother, Mary Lou Walker of Pauls Valley; one brother and his wife, Larry and Marilyn Walker of Dallas, Texas; one grandniece, Marianne Cooper; three grand nephews, Ronnie Mackey, Clint Mackey and Scott Walker; several great grandnieces and nephews; and two cousins, Ronnie Winget and Danny Winget. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Stufflebean-Coffey Chapel of Remembrance officiated by Chuck Lightfoot. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home |
