George Wayne Chambers
December 13, 1937 ~ January 19, 2000


Services for Wayne Chambers, a longtime resident of Oklahoma City, were Saturday at the Southern Hills Baptist Church.

Born December 13, 1937, at Jimtown, Mr. Chambers died January 19, 2000.

A graduate of Ardmore High School, Mr. Chambers served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Following his discharge, he began college, attending Rose State Jr. College, Central State, and OU where he graduated with a degree in Psychology.

Mr. Chambers was recognized by the Who's Who organization for his work in the field. He was the first Drug & Alcohol Counselor for the Drug & Alcohol Recovery Program at St. Anthony's Hospital and at the same time worked and retired as a Contract Negotiator for Tinker Air Force Base.

Following retirement, Mr. Chambers turned his creative abilitites into a business and made Santa Fe Style Birdhouses. He loved nature, golf and embraced people and life with a passion.

Survivors include his wife, Gayle Chambers of the home in Oklahoma City; a son, Bryon of Weatherford; three daughters, Angie of Oklahoma City, Lisa Dahlem and husband Duane of Norman, and Beth Burns of Del City; two grandchildren, Joshua Dahlem and Dalton Burns; two brothers, Sam Garvey Chambers, Jr. and wife Eula of Ida, Arkansas, and Bill Chambers and wife Pau of Ardmore; two sisters, Jo Foster and husband Lewis of Marietta and Genevieve Donaldson of Dickson, Tennessee; 17 nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

Interment was Saturday in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Pauls Valley, under the direction of Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuaries.

Memorials may be made to the Missions Program at Southern Hills Baptist Church, 8601 S. Penn, Oklahoma City, OK 73159.
