Elden James Blackburn
November 18, 1927 ~ December 14, 2014

Elden James Blackburn, of Pauls Valley, passed away December 14, 2014 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma at the age of 87 years.

Elden was born November 18, 1927 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma to Tom and Ruby [Clour] Blackburn.

He served during World War II in the United States Army.

Following his tour of duty he and Miami Bell Childress, the love of his life, were married in 1949 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. They made their home here and were blessed with two children Eldona and Tommy.

He was a paint contractor for 25 years and later opened his first store in 1965, Blackburn's Paint and Upholstery. Later he opened Blackburn's Home Center and served Pauls Valley and the surrounding area until his retirement on July 7, 2014 at the age of 86 years.

He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church.

Elden was most happy when he was fishing, hunting or working. He loved talking to people when they would come into the store and to help them in any way that he could. He especially loved his grandchildren, but he loved any of the children that entered his store. He'd go home telling the family about a child that had come in that day. His life revolved around his grandchildren and would go out of his way for them; they who were his greatest joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Ruby Blackburn; his wife, Miami Blackburn; grandson, Chris Dennis; sister, Cornelia Turley and brother, Joe Tom Blackburn.

Survived by his daughter, Eldona Blackburn Dennis, and grandson, John Dennis, both of Pauls Valley; his son, Tommy Blackburn of Norman; granddaughter, T J Pettit and her husband, Evan, also, of Norman; and granddaughter, Tara Johnson and her husband, Rick, and great-grandson, Collier Johnson, all of Bend, Oregon; one brother, Harrell Blackburn, of Pauls Valley; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Memorials in the name of Elden James Blackburn may be made to the American Cancer Society. Their link on-line for making a memorial donation is: https://donate.cancer.org/index.

Memorial services will be at a later date when the family gets together for a family reunion to remember. Cremation services are under the direction of the Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home in Pauls Valley. His resting place will be next to his wife, Miami, at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley.
