Wyman Dale Hensley
September 29, 1949 ~ November 8, 2017

Wyman Dale Hensley was born in Pauls Valley, OK on September 29, 1949 to Clyde and Sylvia Loree [Morphew] Hensley. He passed away at his home in Wilson, OK on November 8, 2017 at the age of 68 after a lengthy illness.

He is survived by his son, Jami Dale Hensley and his wife Christina of Lonoke, AR and a granddaughter, Madeline Grace Hensley. He leaves two brothers: Don Hensley [Patricia] of Sterling, AK and Roger Hensley [Delories] of Edmond, Oklahoma, two sisters: Rebecca Hill [Woodie] of Maysville, OK and Sylvia Hansen of Sterling, AK. He had multiples of nieces & nephews and great nieces and nephews and kept pictures of as many as he could on his wall. He is preceded in death by his parents.

He was called Dale by his family but frequently went by the name of Wyman.

He graduated from Maysville High School in 1967.

He served with the US Army in Viet Nam and came home to recuperate after sustaining life threatening war injuries. Sergeant Dale Hensley was awarded the Purple Heart, the Viet Nam Service Medal and the National Defense Ribbon for distinguished military service. His torment of this war and its horrors is now over.

Dale married Phyllis McKinney from Maysville, OK after his military service ended.

He worked after rehabilitation from his war injuries at Tinker Field AFB in Oklahoma City, OK.

He & Phyllis later returned to Garvin County and Dale went into general home repair service. He loved carpentry and he repaired and remodeled many homes in the Garvin County area.

Dale was a poet and a talented artist. He was awarded a scholarship to an art school in New York when he graduated from high school, however, he chose to volunteer for the life of a soldier instead. He put many of his poems on Facebook so others could enjoy them.

Dale loved his country, it’s flag, and his family. He believed in doing random acts of kindness for others and not telling anyone about them.

He retired in 2007 when he moved to Wilson, OK.

Dale enjoyed writing songs, fishing, playing pool, shooting guns, and squirrel hunting. Dale had a little one-eyed Jack Terrier dog that he loved, cared for and worried about.

A visitation for family and friends will be 5 to 7 pm, Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Winans Funeral Home, 405 Sixth Street, Maysville, OK.
