Esther Venita [Bennett] Hawkins
December 5, 1923 ~ December 23, 2011


Funeral services for Mrs. Hawkins, 88, of Purcell, were held at the Sunray Baptist Church in Purcell. []Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.] She passed away 23 Dec 2011, at her daughter's home in Moore, 2 days after the death of her sister, Loretta Bennett Edgmon Ross, age 77.Born 5 Dec 1923, near Sulphur, OK, she was the eldest of 8 children of George Allen Bennett and Era Deverl []Fowler] Bennett.

She grew up in the Arnold View Community near Maysville and beginning school there and graduated from Wayne High School in 1942.

Doris David "D.D." Hawkins and Venita married on 21 Nov 1942 in Blanchard, McClain Co., OK. They moved to CA during W.W. II and raised 4 children.

D. D. was in the Army and Venita worked as a Rosie the Riveter.

They returned to Wayne, McClain Co., OK, in 1951.

Dedicating more than 42 years caring for others as a nurse and as a pastor's wife, she served as the church treasurer at Filmore Missionary Baptist Church and later at Sunray Baptist Church in Purcell, where she was a member.

She worked at the Purcell Hospital for many years and later with Dr. Robert R. Sullivan in Norman where she retired.

Preceded in death by her husband, D.D.; her parents; 4 brothers, Glenn, Dean, Herman and Jay Bennett; a sister, Lori and a sister-in-law, Shirley Owens.

Her survivors include her son, Max Hawkins; 3 daughters, Donna De Mun, Penny Hunter, and Dee Ann Gay; her brother, Quinin Bennett; sister, Rita Liberty; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great- great-grandchildren.

Johnny Lee Hawkins Sr
June 25, 1944 ~ December 9, 2021


Johnny Lee Hawkins Sr. was born to Thurman and Venita Hawkins on June 25, 1944 and passed from this life on December 9, 2021.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman and Venita Hawkins and his brother, Jimmie.

In 1964, Johnny Sr. joined the United States Army and served for four years.

He then went to work at Tinker as a sheet metal fabricator while also helping to run the family farm.

After 20 years, he retired from Tinker and went to work for Ford as a car salesman.  He did this until he had to have a kidney transplant in 2003.

Johnny and Phyliss enjoyed over 52 years together and loved each other until death did them part.

Phyliss Ann [Huff] Hawkins
June 28, 1947 ~ December 11, 2021


Phyliss Ann Hawkins was born on June 28, 1947, to Mena and Bill Huff and passed from this life on December 11, 2021.

Phyliss was preceded in death by her parents, Mena and Bill Huff.

Phyliss Ann Huff married the love of her life, Johnny Lee Hawkins Sr. on June 2, 1967, and God blessed them with their greatest joy on April 30, 1970, with the birth of Johnny Lee Hawkins Jr.

Phyliss enjoyed being a full-time mom and working the family farm.

During Johnny and Phyliss' marriage, they enjoyed doing things together. They loved to fish and travel. Johnny especially enjoyed his NASCAR races, and Phyliss made sure they went to see George Strait every time he came through.

Johnny and Phyliss enjoyed over 52 years together and loved each other until death did them part.
