Maysville, Oklahoma February 2023 October 25, 1937 ~ February 9, 2023 Mary Lou Ashley, age 85 of Maysville, passed away February 9, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Mary Lou Brakefield was born October 25, 1937 in Wayne, Oklahoma, the 7th of 10 children born to James Columbus Brakefield and Myrtle Beatrice Brakefield. She attended Wayne Public Schools and graduated with the Bulldog Class of 1955. Shortly after graduating she met a young man by the name of Jerry Ashley, and they were married on April 2, 1956. They made their home in Maysville where they raised their four children, daughters Debra, Shannon and Sharon, and son Chris. Mary Lou worked tirelessly as a homemaker, caring and providing for her family. She could do anything she set her mind to, and was never shy for learning something new. She was an excellent seamstress and quilter, and shared her many talents with her family and friends. There was never a better cook or baker, and she will be forever remembered for her famous apple dumplings. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, sister and friend. She will be dearly missed! She was preceded in death by: her son, Chris Ashley; husband, Jerry Ashley; parents, James and Myrtle Brakefield; brothers Duane, Carrell and Curtis, and four infant siblings. Mary Lou is survived by: her daughters, Debra Stephens of Maysville, Shannon Whitmore [Jimmy] of Pauls Valley, and Sharon Bratcher [Steven] of Pauls Valley; two sisters, Helen Harrington of Wayne, and Shirly 'O Hagan of Sacramento, California; grandchildren, Tara Sue and Jeremy, Matt and Dawn, Allison, Erika and Erick, Samatha, Luke, and Dakota; great grandchildren, Shelby and Robert, Sophia, Emmalynn, Raedyn, Ryland, Antonia and Brady and Dakota; great great grandchildren, Aleeah, Illana, Bo, Jaxson, Colt and a host of other family and friends. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Maysville Cemetery. |
